Thedalek: The length of a boardgame box can greatly restrict where it can be stored. The girth (that is, thickness) of a boardgame box, however, will generally not even approach the length. Doubling the girth doubles the storage volume, same as doubling the length, but doesn't cause any storage problems. Girth is definitely more important.
