caractus: Free jazz is my preference. I love Coltrane.

Felimid: Swing, beebop. Lots of performers. Miles Davis, Benny Goodman, Dizzy Gillespie, Billy Holiday, Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans, Pat Metheny, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Ella Fitzgerald, George Gershwin, etc.

I know this is unpopular with a lot of the "jazz elite" but I'm a big fan of Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra over the past 10 years. And without a doubt, Duke Ellington.

dakarp: I like Django Reinhardt, who played a sort of swing in Europe during the 30's and 40's, and who is something of a genre onto himself. I also like John Zorn's avant garde stuff, although I don't know that it is technically jazz. Plus, the usual suspects--Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Ella Fitzgerald, and many others.
