Woelf: "Intelligent Design" is nothing more than a made-up term that was coined by anti-science religious types (especially biblical literalists) as a way to acknowledge and accept the overwhelming evidence in favor of evolution without having to actually use that scary "E" word, because somehow doing that would make them wrong and would completely and utterly destroy all of their core beliefs, even though only the barest amount of common sense would show that they're perfectly compatible.

WatchmanX2000: There's so much existing reproducible evidence to support evolution as a model the only way we'll ever know if the mechanism is a tool used by a higher creator, a random element in the works, or a simple mutagenic device to cause regular change is if said entity chooses to reveal the answer in person at some point. Meanwhile, why would anyone believe in a creator who lied to them by building a universe the physical evidence would show is billions of years old when he only created it a couple tens of thousands of years ago? Come to think of it, why would a supreme being care what mere humans thought? It's one of those important tests of a theology, you know. Like why use fear to force someone to worship you? Or if you have so much power, why would use it to destroy instead of creating? Another, why would it matter to a supreme being if some insignificant mortal didn't believe in their omnipotence... aren't these issues a bit contradictory, leaving in doubt the purpose of such a belief system?

heli: One good thing about ID: its popularity means the anti-evolution people have half bought into the theory, which is an advance! DonO: To those who think Intelligent Design over Evolution, I say MY GOD IS FAR MORE INTELLIGENT AND POWERFUL THAN YOURS! My God is smart enough to create a universe at the strings level (or maybe something even more fundamental) and evolution is one of the things that just naturally happens in His universe. So I say "both." Intelligence is defined as what my God has more of than yours. :P

After all, wouldn't Intelligent Design prove that there is a God, which would then also show that there isn't one, as unequivocal proof of God's existance ruins the concept of belief.
