¿Question #1362?
ejmowrer: Why do people assume that if you had a pair of X-Ray glasses that you'd be able to see people's underwear instead of straight through them, or worse, their internal organs?

BOBBYCAN: Not as fun, I guess. Or Supermany.
tankexmortis: "X-ray" has become slang for "that shit Superman does where he sees through something".
Havox: Because looking at a spleen is not nearly as hot.
Woelf: It's what they really want, not what they assume. "X-Ray" is a misnomer, but it's too widespread and commonly accepted to correct it now.
Hendal: cause we think boobies and cooters and that is what we want to see
sirjeyhmis: Heh, good question.
xlorp: And why doesn't anybody see cancer or old bullets or anything useful?
whac3: ignorance
aleo09: too many superman movies
jajax: 42
Polgara: i'd expect to see bones, as that's what's on xrays from the hospital.
WatchmanX2000: dirty minds
Frubgarde: It's all the fault of that Roger Corman film, "The Man With X-Ray Eyes".
snorville: Why can you selectively see through outer clothing but not undergarments?
Hector Vortac: Because 11-year-old boys are naive.
KrisVerbeeck: I don't know. I expect to see their bones
diemacher: It's their fantasy
ZiggyZambo: no idea
DHEK: Because they assume the X-ray glasses would have been calibrated such that it could intelligently show what is likely to be what the user wants to see (i.e. whether through a thick wall or just through clothes) because if the technology is sufficiently high to create such glasses, it should be high enough to create such "intelligent" sensors in the glasses.
Tushratta: Or still worse, the internal organs of the person standing behind them. Ick.
POvidiusNaso: Yeah, X-rays only show bones and bits of metal they've eaten...and some interior organs.
LordT: How many movies do you suppose
bigbadsteve: its less damaging if you are scanning a room full of people
ZombyDawg: Because that's what they show in the ads.
jace_813: I have often wondered this myself but the thought is pretty amusing.
nibuen: they don't, TV does
Cromaa: Because it was aimed at kids reading comic books...
Task: Popularized fiction.
FrozenHoHos: I've seen my wife's internal organs twice and her underwear a few more times.
_Kael_: Fun factor

Avatar_69: They just hope
MattDP: Or why not the people/objects on the other side, hmm?
Kazin: Because (breasts > internal organs)

jasta6: Yuck!
Deeghter: Well, I guess the wish is father of the thought, here!:-)
BeatPosse: Because titties are better than organs.
keldrak: i don't know
Unitbuster: I'd be more worried about sterilizing whoever I'm staring at.
brainrob: who cares?

LemonyFresh: it's more pleasing, generally
IronCross: Because this people are silly kids.
RonStock: Cause people like to ASS-U-ME

javelin98: Because it's naughtier that way
Dorque: It says on the ad in the comic book that it stops after clothes.
Dr. No: wishful thinking
notquitekarpov: because of that terrible film
Dante_Cubit: The power of stupidity.
Cavedog_pdx: Superpowers are only cool if you can control them.
warpozio: good question
sourwyrm: you could control the materials you went through
chux vomitus: Because it is a fantasy. Internal organs will figure in David Cronenberg's fantasy.
Ludocrazy: Underwear is funnier than skeletons
CharlieWonka: Because there are obviously settings on the glasses
Belash: cuz we want to see through their underwear and stop there... otherwise, where's the fun in that?
kennyb: beacuse those ads are aimed at horny teenagers
Steve Leach: Because seeing underwear is more fun.
The Unbeliever: 42
2amp: a man can dream, can't he?
AWildEep: Perversion.
ThatFalafelGirl: because they're egotistical and think it's all about peeping in on them.
puffinge: I assume I'll see through their underwear too, but no farther.
Musti: I always assume you can see people without their underwear ;). Although I know that's incorrect either. And confirms I have a dirty mind.
rivo: The inside is regarded as being too private
Lord_Prussian: That's how they would want it to work?
sumo: It is not an assumption, just an expression of desire.
skrutsch: I don't know. That's never made sense to me.
Linnaeus: Because of generations of bad jokes from a less prurient time.
SwedeLad: Because it's sexier.
CapAp: Because people like boobies.
snoozefest: they're stupid?
scriptorum: X-Ray glasses are fictitious, so they can do whatever you imagine.
ValJor: It makes for more interesting movies
erli: Most people are perverts
Randy Cox: Because it's my fantasy. You can be the human X-Ray technician, but I'll use the lower powered pair (one lense gets you through one layer of clothes, the other gets you through two :) )
toulouse: Bad 60's B movies
leece: Lowest common denominator.
ejmowrer: Who wrote this silly question??
batman: People are stupid.
mschlat: I blame comics and the pulps --- once we set the pattern of X-Ray vision emanating from the person, all was lost.
darthcliff: It's more fun that way
DenverWolf: because underwear is always funny
djflippy: Well, that's just common knowledge. ; )
AlorielLelyn: Because they are less worried about people seeing through them or their internal organs, than they are about them seeing intimate apparel, or the skin beneath said apparel...
isolated: Wishful thinking.
BaSL: because that's what they want
alfredhw: What? Doesn't everyone wear lead skivvies?

gnomehome: Funny, I never made that assumption.
djlg: Because "people" are stoopid.
PghArch: Because it worked for Superman.
kuhrusty: Oh, listen to mister "I know just what I would be able to see with X-Ray glasses, even though I've never actually used a pair." Well, if that's not how X-Ray glasses work, then how come I can see your underwear right now? (And... uhh... aren't those buckles a little uncomfortable?)
BobDodgerBlue: That is what the illustrations always show, and people are gullible
Wernazuma: wishful thinking - religion has similarily deluding effects on logic
fizzix: Even if you could see Xrays, you would need a source of Xrays in order to see them. Fortunately there a virtually no stray X-rays unless you happen to be standing near an x-ray machine.
WasQ: Or who is behind....
Flyspeck23: I ain't got a clue. And neither do I know why people think that they'll still be able to see after turning invisible...
louiseh: Because they have limited imaginations
jttm: Its nicer that way?
CortexBomb: I blame the mass media, the idea makes for good stories at times
geberus: they are not encourage to think critcally about things such as this
Blackwind: I have no clue.
fsumarc: I don't know.
skelebone: Why don't X-Ray specs give people cancer?
