Although I usually will bid on something first, so my snipe will be a last-minute raise, rather than a last-minute new bidder swooping in from the blue, which is something I hate being on the receiving end of, although I wouldn't argue that it's unfair or wrong.

Csteb: No. I do it the way you're supposed to do it: enter the max I will pay then walk away. Surprisingly, it works fairly well.
Stephen Glenn: Why is there a special word (with a heavily negative connotation) for bidding at the last moment? If you get outbid, it means someone was willing to pay more than you. Oh, but you were willing to bid higher? Then you bid improperly or were trying to get something for a steal.
