¿Question #1543?
Wernazuma: Which game you didn't expect much of was your most positive surprise?
Sacco: Shadows of Malice.
Hallow: Vikings
Myok: Easily Three Dragon Ante. I thought it would be a pathetic cash-in on the popular D&D name, but it is quite fun by itself!
Felimid: "Hive", maybe. And I'm glad I was so wrong, because it's a really fun game.
PasiMax: Lately that would have to be Carson City
Jatoha: toss your cookies
xofour: So far nothing. I am way too optimistic. I was hoping I would say "betrayal at House on the HIll" but even that does not live up to my dreams. oh well.
2amp: i'll have to think about this & come back
brad_c_1966: Hands Down
Mike A: Citadels.
sigtaulefty: Union Pacific
quentin1: bridges of shangri la
tuttleboy: Take Stock
Boarass: Wise & Otherwise. I thought it was going to be a stupid Balderdash clone but it not only turned out to be far superior to Balderdash, but also one of the few games I rate a 10.
Rliyen: Shadowfist
Golux: Warrior Knights.
shteev: LOTR
ecobot3001: go to the head of the class
DHEK: Hmmm... can't think of any... I almost always have a positive first impression of a new game, and have yet to find a new game that I first thought bad to be really good after I play it.
monkeyrobot: Mall of Horror and Lifeboat
maumau: sex?
Beyak: Time's Up
aleo09: the magnificent race (thrift store find)

Boraxia: HeroScape
Agyar900: Arkham Horror
Cut & Space: Maia
dmomo: Zeus and Hera
SisyphusX: Anachronism.
Roja: Kuhhandel ("You're bluffing" in English)
StormKnight: Maybe the Tomb Raider CCG. It was bought out of sheer morbid curiosity, and was rather fun.
BigZaphod: Stratego
Helenoftroy: Wizard Kings
rhysling: Acquire - I saw some people playing it, thought it looked rather boring. A year or two later my wife and I bought it on a whim. Since then...we've become frequent boardgamers.
keldrak: lunch money
Tushratta: San Juan
Scott Tepper: Tower of Babel
jellospike: Ra
Odat: There have been a few games I was sceptical of before playing them. I think the most positive must be Empire Builder, since that's in the collection but most of the others aren't.
shebby: Carcassonne
ZombyDawg: Settlers of Catan. It looked dumn when I saw people playing it. I'm a wargamer and there where no armies or attacks or anything that I want in a game. But dang, I love it! I have most of the expansions (don't really want Cities and Kniights) and the add-ons for additional players. I have Seafarers and Starfarers and the Stoneage game. I also have Settlers of Catan: the Travel Edition.
Cavedog_pdx: Air Baron
brainrob: Topple (while under the influence ...)
mats-k: Kingdoms
Numskull: Captain Park's Imaginary Polar Expedition. I expected it to suck as much as any CheapAss game, but it actually sucked slightly less.
southseasnurse: Puerto Rico, actually. I was a wargamer unitl that one.
skrutsch: Igloo Pop
hauwech: Wer ist der Täter
BaSL: Chinatown
sourwyrm: age of steam
Gecko23: Bohnanza
ssmooth: Most recently, Verflixxt!
mrbeankc: Citadels
UserX: Der Untergang von Pompeji
rdmasters: King of the Elves
CapAp: Cafe International
Lord_Prussian: YINSH
snoozefest: don't know
MisterCranky: The Last Paradise
WasQ: werewolf
Metaphora: Puerto Rico, Goa, and Things.
puffinge: Boomtown
gnomehome: Diamant
djlg: Tahu-thingy
ValJor: This has to be Cranium. When my wife told me that some friends wanted to play this, I cringed. But you know what? I had the best of time with it! See my session report for more details: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/75700
Wintergoblin: Quo Vadis
batman: DVONN
AlorielLelyn: TransAmerica
Dave: Monkeys on the Moon
Fawkes: Falling.
chaddyboy_2000: MotM.
wcordewiner: San Juan
Jim_P: This year... it was Niagara

Belash: Settlers of Catan
jttm: Maginor
Spielfreak: Ubongo.
skelebone: I expect a lot of most games.
Wernazuma: Metro
Blackwind: not sure.
