¿Question #1861?
fellonmyhead: We've seen over the decades the rise of the wargame, the role-playing game, the CCG and the modern family strategy; where do you think games will evolve next?

ocdspectrum: Well we haven’t had any games with themes like Vikings, Zombies, civ building, or Cthulhu so maybe some of those,
wytefang: Nowhere - there really won't be any new innovations. This is one hobby where I believe that any possible innovations or ideas have already all been done. By that I'm referring to big industry-changing ideas. I just don't see any on the horizons.
hob69: If I knew where they were headed, I'd be investing wisely. I'm just happy to see them extant.
Diamat: I suspect we're living in the best of times at the moment, and that the tide will ebb again.
bulldozers: Once robots do all the work maybe Naked twister will make a comeback
DHEK: Maybe multimedia games? As in games that go beyond just board and card? Maybe involving sound, video, light, etc. I realize there are some games out there that already, but I was thinking it might become the norm rather than the exception and that there will also be a lot of GOOD games that incorporate this.
elirlandes: I firmly believe that with the release of Go Johnny Go-Go-Go-Go, all other games will cease to be necessary and will fade quickly into nostalgic obscurity.
Der Ubermolch: Until they evolve opposable thumbs, I won't be all that impressed.
Onionking: Interactive MMORPG, with little cables hooked up to your brain
Geosphere: If I knew that, I wouldn't reveal it.
TheArchAngel: I think it will keep swinging back and forth along all of them.
GrimJester: possibly on another planet
Leo-T: family wargames
Pucky: more electonic equipment
ZiggyZambo: no idea
Squashua: Multi-Family Networking Gameshow Games.
szilaj: Survivor.
DHolte: the modern family wargame.
Poetprince: Survivor - the home version complete with 101 recipes on how to cook your competitors from the previous winners
brainrob: I don't know, but (as has been discussed elsewhere) the Euro/historical hybrid has possibilities
Ender Wiggin: A game question involving Darwinism? What about Intelligent Design in boardgames? The Flying Spaghetti Monster would not approve.
Dorque: Co-op.
Kubilai: Pessimist that I am, I see a trend there from complex to simple. Whatever the next wave will be, it will not be more demanding than the previous.
hacksword: I think games will be printed on credit-card-sized pieces of cardboard or plastic called "cards". You'll be able to pack a game using "cards" (called a "card game") into your pocket and be able to play it almost anywhere.
MattDP: The Galapagos Islands
ralpheous: if I knew that, I wouldn't tell any of you!
Culvan: If I knew that, I'd buy stock in a gaming company instead of telling you.
bekudno: Someday you'll be able to plug yourself in, click a button, and instantly have the memories of the best boardgaming experience of your life.
Favre4MVP: Possibly games you can play on your T.V. (television) set, but I think that's a long way off. Perhaps they would be called "video" games.
Tushratta: Gladiatorial combat between family members.
Andrew Snyder: computer aided games
ZombyDawg: Flip a coin, Guess what number I'm thinking. The trend seems to be away from long games with lots of pieces. Fun is measured in brevity these days.
obob: it's on TV already. Money games, made into spectator "sport" as led by poker.
CharlieWonka: The game that never stops
sourwyrm: holograms
scriptorum: We've actually seen the rise and decline of wargames, followed by the birth of a unique, more mainstream wargames. RPGs have also risen and declined, but I disagree if you're saying they're rising again. If they are rising, it's not very strongly. CCG rose and has been in decline for several years. Family strategy has always been around in Europe, it's only just recently taken a good foothold in America. As for your question, I think new kinds of games will be invented, and all games will rise and decline in different cycles. You know, it just occurred to me I could have replied "I don't know" and been done with it, but where's the fun in that?
Great Dane: Multimedia
anson: Virtual Reality Games.
Lord_Prussian: The modern family strategy role-playing wargame?
Nomadik: collectable go pieces. gotta have them all. the ultra rare black piece is hard to get.
lwheeler: All will die out eventually, except abstract strategy
AWildEep: In our brains.
Randy Cox: Well, "rise" of wargames is arguable. Same for "modern family" since it's more like "modern adult strategy" that has taken off of late. Anyway, the next evolution is going to be some sort of trick-taking card game that takes the world by storm. Even bigger than Bunco. Either that or cooperative games where you score individually. Or maybe it'll be solitaire games that you play at the same table with others, but using your own board, dice, etc (unlike the multi-player solitaire of the 90s).
TaliaIsabelle: Carcassonne Expansion #3,791
heli: probably computer related
WasQ: to wargames of german-style mechanics in mobiles phones

thoia: I wish I knew then I could be on the leading front of it all.

Bearcat89: Unfortunately, the cash cow that is "collectible" will continue to dominate
dakarp: If I knew that, I could get into the game business, and make a small fortune out of a large one (if I had a large fortune to start)/
RandallPeek: Games in pill or injectable format.
djlg: Zero-gravity nude Puerto Rico variant design championships. And croquet.
CDRodeffer: Print & Play
Cavedog_pdx: The 3D video holographic board game.
Dave: We'll hit the end-of-the-road with virtual reality "spin-the-bottle".
gnomehome: You forgot "Clicky" games.
TiNYTimIDFluffYBunnY: paty games , the return of
AlorielLelyn: Hmm.... a good question. Perhaps we will see an evolution in children's games?
Blackwind: The rise? Where have you been the last 30 years?
CortexBomb: I think the evolutions tend to come so far out of left field that it would be difficult to predict the change before it happens, and if you did you would probably want to be the one cashing in anyway...
chaddyboy_2000: Robots.
skelebone: Real-time punch-in-the-face strategy.
jttm: Eurogames
Spielfreak: Collectible family wargame
