¿Question #200?
Fawkes: Do you think Euphrat & Tigris has a strong theme?
Woelf: Never played it.
oldhoss: Rivers are strong.
Jatoha: Aw, Fawkes, I hope all is well with you wherever you may be.
vandemonium: Not particularly strong no. It is a perfectly workable theme though, and I love the game.
star2pilot: Not really.
Caerid: Dunno, I have not played it.
bcooperok: Nah. Needs more helicopters or zombies or something.
Felimid: Yep. Weightlifters love playing it. :)
pwilz: I don't think it has a STRONG theme. It might for a Knizia game. It does not have a weak theme.
Stormparkiet: No. But that's ok. I don't need a weak theme to dislike a game.
Actorios: It may appear thin to some people but it has never bothered me. Reiner Knizia claims about this game that the theme came before the mechanisms. I can believe that.
Phloid: Rivers are cool!
chockle: Not a strong theme, but it's not nonexistent either
jtrleone: no
Mike McCall: No.
DHEK: Just average, I'd say.
OsmiumATOMasATOM: No
Chris Page: Sort of. It captures the theme of competing civilizations well, but in a very abstract manner.
mrspank: Does it matter? It's maybe the best game ever made.
Greedo: I forget.
Mark_WH: No
cowdog: Sure, why not.
pattonre: No ... the theme is simply slapped on ... but still a very good gaming mechanism
g3lutz: No
dmomo: Haven't played it yet
brainrob: No (but Mr Knizia does!)
scriptorum: It has a theme.
mlanza: An adequate theme.
POvidiusNaso: No.
Jet Jaguar: It's okay, but you can't dance to it.
Loquutus: Not really. It could be Acquire 2.
rawdawg: havent played it
LemonyFresh: No, though it makes it much more enjoyable than if it weren't there at all
Sheylon: Sure.
fehrmeister: Fairly strong
Timothius: Not really, but that's not it's selling point.
Tushratta: Yes.
Payne: Yes, it is easier to understand and explain the game as a building of civilizations.
Codexier: Yes
GrandpaDave: Yes
skrutsch: not really
davedanger: for a bookend, yes.
Great Dane: no
rhviid: nah, but who cares? It's a great game.
Darkman: yes, we all dress up egyptian way and put on the song walk like an egyptian when playing this game. Then we really get sucked into the game
Malachi: No
ssmooth: I don't think the term "theme" is appropriate in the sense you're using it. I think the activities of the game are reasonably analogous to the terminology used in the rules to describe them.
Lord_Prussian: Yes
The Unbeliever: 42
Gamegrunt: Yes.
Windopaene: Moderately strong
Redneon: No.
Sceadeau: I think it does
Claytonius Maximus: Who cares? It's a great game.
King_Custard: No - but its a great game nonetheless
Jern: Yes
puffinge: I think it's a bit stronger than most claim, but it is pretty abstract.
batman: yes, read some of the session reports
Cal Mac: Strong might be overstating it a little, but the theme is there.
heli: strong enough
TiNYTimIDFluffYBunnY: mmmmm sort of
jpact: Yes.
Karlsen: I didn't think so, but my opinion has changed after listening to the Reiner Knizia GeekSpeak
Abundance of Flowers: No
buergerberatung: are you kidding ?
Johan: No, but it's growing on me
Nightmare: No
threlicus: No. A weak theme, but not no theme.
Bluenose: No. Great game though, and I think the argument takes peoples eye of the ball in that respect.
mfrederick: Not even slightly, at least not in the way that Americans think of theme.
Dave: Not particularly. The gameplay is so strong that I don't really care; same goes for Samurai.
djlg: Absolutely!
darthcliff: No
Belash: yes, thanks to you Fawkes
Mosse: It has a theme - not strong - but most definately present.
BobDodgerBlue: Dunno
raolsson: Yes
chaddyboy_2000: Not really.
geberus: yes
Ludocrazy: yes
jens_hoppe: Better than some German-style games, worse than (more or less) all historical simulations
game_boy: In general yes, but some parts (e.g. adding more tiles from the hand to win a conflict) don't seem to have a thematic explanation.
dbmurph22: not really...about a 3.5 out of 10
Eric Haas: No
snoozefest: probably, but need to play more
netfilterz: Not strong, but still one that is clearly there.

TamiWhitsett: mediu,
Flyspeck23: Somewhat.
UhhhClem: Do you think there's a duller topic in gaming?
Gelatinous Goo: definitely
seppo21: I've never found a reliable method of determining the strength of a boardgame's theme. They never seem interested in lifting the weights I've assigned them.
janiera: No
Skyjack: Yes
daw65: No, that's not how my mind is wired.
silverpenny: Of course.
ScottBecker: yes
HBGlover: I'm on the fence. I guess the ebb and flow of the kingdoms is similar to the way I imagine the dawn of civilization might have taken place.
CDRodeffer: Stronger than....?
Zambo: Stronger than most Knizias, yes.
dklx3: no
Shakar: There is no doubt that it contains no theme at all, still it's a good game.
hibikir: yep
wtrollkin2000: No. I understand the mechanics become the theme arguement (and among comparable levels of presentation its theme is stronger), but it still can't compare to the presentation or visual details of a good miniatures game.
EvilTimmy: Some argue so, but I don't buy it. It's a dressed up chess game.
rochs77: Nope
nix342: Yes
louiseh: It has a theme...
Basilius: No
tomski: No
Gregarius: Yes
dietevil: Not really
PopeBrain: yes

azegzao: Yes
WasQ: no
ValJor: Yes
Snooze_uk: I give it 5 out of 10 for theme
gnomehome: It has a theme ?
MisterCranky: Yes, it's obviously all about a couple of rivers. I mean really, when do these questions get tough?
litho: Yes.
