¿Question #220560?
mr3d: How tolerant are you to house rules?

Jedadeana: Not sure... never actually had anyone ask to play games differently like that before, but I would probably want to play the game normal a few times first. However, last night we tried fixing a bad luck-fest game with "house rules" but it didn't work, so now I at least have some more components for print&plays (the game was "voltage" and had only cost a few dollars). So I guess if the house rules can fix or somehow make a game more enjoyable or strategic, then I would be alright changing things
pricero1: I'm happy not to choose the first player by the method given in the rules. (eg the rule in Tobago is for the person who have most-recently visited an island goes first - I live on an island!)
sparkous: If someone proves to me that this is a relevant house rule and I agree ... ok let's go for the house rule.
mattomaw: I don't think I have ever played house rule.
rayzg: It depends on the game. We played Dune recently, and one house rule my friends wanted to play with is that alliances can have a maximum of two players. Then there's one friend who "house rules" cooperative games by communicating things that he shouldn't communicate. That I despise.
Woelf: I'm always open to hearing them, but only rarely am I willing to actually use them. Every so often you run across one that legitimately makes a game better, but the vast majority imbalance things by making one strategy/tactic stronger at the expense of another, often stemming from a misunderstanding of some important rule.
PolarDad: Very...if everyone agrees and if it is discussed BEFORE the game begins.
