¿Question #220779?
freechinanow: For you big Star Trek fans, what are your thoughts on so-called “NuTrek” (Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks). Enjoying? Not so much? Don’t care enough to watch?
the_fifth_horseman: Found Discovery just meh. Picard... enjoyable but following somewhat different sensibilities than TNG. Lower Decks is a riot. As of late, however, the best recent "Trek" happens to be The Orville. It's the TNG formula updated for the modern world, with perhaps a touch of parody (but it works *well*)
Fribian: Don't care enough to watch.
Inkedad: Frelling G•A•R•B•A•G•E
Woelf: We don't have Paramount+, so most of what I know about them comes from articles and episode reviews online, but I have seen the first 3-4 episodes of Discovery, the first episode of Picard, and some random episode (season 2 premier?) of Lower Decks. Disco didn't do much at all to grab my attention, and from what I've read it went completely off the rails in a weird (not good) direction. Picard went way too hard for the dark/gritty/bleak tone that didn't feel very "Star Trek" at all, but maybe that improved later (haven't heard as much about later episodes). Lower Decks, on the other hand, looks great, and everything I read about it and every clip I see makes me want to watch it that much more. Not enough to actually get a P+ account right now, but it adds weight to the decision whenever Netflix inevitably loses TNG, DS9, and Avatar/Korra (TOS, VOY, and ENT are already gone). /// Sidenote: The best new(ish) Star Trek show is actually The Orville.
MABBY: Discovery was pretty darned good, but they did ramp up the violence/ torture. Picard was cute, and better than it probably should have been. I'm all Trekked out now, though, so I'm not watching any more.
Ruesailmana: I want to watch Discovery, but I stopped when they started the torture. Picard is nice. Lower Decks is not my kind of humor.
