¿Question #221072?
pricero1: How old were you when you first read a book written by someone younger than you? (With thanks to purps for the idea)
purplewurple: Looking at my recent reads, it's mostly authors from my own generation. Tamsyn Muir was born in '85, Amal El-Mohtar in '84, Arkady Martine in '85, Becky Chambers in '85. I still find it hard to believe that the author of the Poppy War trilogy, R.F. Kuang, was born in '96. That's 1800 pages of epic military fantasy based on the Second Sino-Japanese War and the life of Mao Zedong written and published before she was 25.
Woelf: I'm relatively certain that F.C. Yee, the author of the two Kyoshi books (2019 and 2020), is younger than me, but otherwise I have no idea. Most of the prominent authors that come to mind are much older (and/or deceased), but there are tons of kids' books I've read too, and any number of those could have had younger authors.
BOBBYCAN: I don't know, but some googlin just showed me that Martha Wells is 57, which surprised me.
