mattomaw: I was abandoned in Belgium ( Torhout) when I went to a U2 gig there in the 80s, when I was about 16. It was a coach trip thing and the coach left without me. I had to hitchhike back. Luckily I had my passport in my pocket. I had just enough cash for the ferry, but had to beg my train fare home from Dover to London. I went with a friend who managed to catch the bus. He worried all the way home but I actually got back before him because he got diverted to Calais rather than Rotterdam!
