TomTi89: Some quick research suggests yes. All numbers can be considered to be built in base one anyway. 2 = 1 + 1, and 3 = 1 + 1 + 1. This sounds a bit circular but maybe it's just me not explaining very well, but if there are an odd number of ones, it's an odd number, and an even number of ones gives an even number. This scales up to all bases. So, whatever 72 looks like in higher bases, it's still even. However, the divisibility by 2 rule for even numbers works in all even bases, and fails in all odd bases, or is at least unreliable. Lots of info out there, but not enough time for me to dig deeper before I have to start work.
