¿Question #222288?
Modpin: You are standing on a street corner when there is suddenly a flash in front of you. A man appears and lunges at you, grabbing your arm and forcing a small device into your hand while yelling "I'm from the future! We need you to save us, this is as far back in the timestream as I could reach, but it isn't far enough! Go back with the device I just gave you and stop the catastrophe before it can begin!" Before he can explain the catastrophe to you, he is yanked back to his time. Examining the time device, you can see it looks easily programmable to go whenever and wherever you want (into the past anyway. It doesn't seem like you can travel to the future or somewhere else in the present). Do you go into the past? If you do, where and when do you go, and what do you do to stop the catastrophe?

Woelf: It can go anywhere, as long as it's to the past? What's the minimum time restriction on that? If a few seconds into the past are all you need, it's effectively a teleporter to go anywhere.
PolarDad: I go back four hours and stop myself from eating that nasty underbaked cinnamon roll.
mr3d: It entirely depends on what kind of time travel we are talking about (single time line or multiple time lines?). I'd go back 5min, and as soon as the stranger appears I would interrupt him and ask: what catastrophe? Then repeat a few times until I get all necessary information or break the time space continuum.
