mr3d: When you buy a new game you have never played before, how much do you research it in advance?

pricero1: I read copious reviews and the rule book.
TheNameWasTaken: For the last couple of years, I've set some pretty hard limits on buying new games. I'm relaxing those limits somewhat this year, but I plan to try games at least once before buying them.
RavingLoon: It depends entirely on what mood I'm in. Normally quite a bit of research. Far less if I'm annoyed, tired, or otherwise in a poor state of mind.
oriecat: Depends - if it's a big, expensive game, I will research it. If it's a cheap game themed on cats, I will just buy it unless it really looks terrible.
pwilz: Sometimes quite a bit. Sometimes, a quick glance at the geek. Sometimes, eh, this looks like it might be interesting. (5 2 1 1 does look like it might be a good game, though.)
PolarDad: Read the rules, watch several review videos, read several text reviews, watch a playthrough or two, and read comments from people I feel have similar tastes in board games as me or whose opinions I value.
Woelf: Read the rules at the bare minimum, read several reviews and playthroughs, look through the forums to see if there are any major recurring issues or problems, maybe watch a video or two on mute to get a better look at components.
