MABBY: As far as I know they did have eta, zeta, iota, kappa, lambda, mu, and nu variants but they were tiny outbreaks and basically eradicated within a week.
Woelf: Most of those fizzled out after an initial surge and/or were overrun by a more virulent variant.
sparkous: Kappa and Mu are attributed to variants. You can drink a corona while wearing a Kappa T-shirt.
pricero1: It would have been confusing to have a nu variant (people would think that it is improved). An President Xie would have not allowed a xi variant.
TheNameWasTaken: I don't know, but there's an ophthalmological clinic chain in Russia called Omicron, and their owner is somewhat understandably upset about this. Even sued the WHO to get the variant name changed.
