¿Question #222956?
mattomaw: Was playing UNO last night. It came to my attention that loads of the rules we play are not officially rules. Things like playing a zero means you can change hands with someone, or being able to butt in out of turn if you play an Identical number card. There were a couple of others as well. Where did I learn these from? I have no recollection of ever being taught UNO by someone else. Do you play any rules in UNO that are not the official rules?
mr3d: I read the official rules of UNO once and I was surprised how wrong they were.
Gilgermesh: We used to play with saving wild draw fours and just drawing cards if you so desired but we had to abandon that rule because games would never end. Everyone would just sit there with a wild draw four in their hand until the person after them got Uno and then play it.
Chris%20Page: Playing Free Parking means you draw 500 cards.
Woelf: The 0 rule is new to me, but I've seen the matching card thing elsewhere (can't recall where, but maybe it was some weird UNO variant). When playing with my kids, we always make the playing of Wilds (especially +4) optional so you can choose to draw instead and save it for later. Back in high school we used the draw-stacking rule, where if someone played a Draw +2 or Draw +4 against you, you could avoid the penalty by playing another draw card on top (a +2 could even play on a +4 if it matched the called color). The penalty would keep accumulating until someone couldn't play another Draw card, and then they'd get all of it. It was not uncommon for someone to end up drawing 20+ cards at a time. Those games took forever to finish.
PolarDad: I've never heard of the ones you mentioned.
