PolarDad: What was the last new game that you had massively highly expectations for that actually was as good as you hoped?

freechinanow: I liked Ankh, even though I think a good deal of people shat on it because unconsciously they’re trying to kill their love of $200 KS games. I thought it was an interesting development from Eric Lang. Though I’ll admit I’ve yet to play a game where it gets to the controversial Merge phase. But I like it regardless because otherwise this would be a game where 1st place and last place would have been long known before the actual end of the game.

rayzg: DuploHex. Skruuvi is a close second. (Note that these aren't new games but new-to-me games!)

mattomaw: I think most of my recent games that I have had high expectations of have been as good as I hoped. To name a couple - Project Elite, Clash of Cultures, Glenmore 2 amongst others.
