Fribian: To Robins question: Yes, the grass tends to grow in little spurts around here when the sun is out, and temperature is right. We get a lot of rain here when it's not snowing and iced up. So yep, was attempting to get it chopped back down as I don't want a foot of grass to mow through when things really start to come back from winter. The mower was working fine last July but had gone in for some repairs and general maintenance.
