pricero1: In boardgames are you happier dealing with strategy or with tactics?

rayzg: In most cases, strategy. For me, I actually find the things you actually do in a game boring. For example, I love trick taking games, but essentially, they are all about comparing the ranks of cards. Also, tactics are the source of AP! Exceptions include word games (I love making words from letter tiles or dice) or making pretty patterns in abstracts.

purplewurple: My favorite game remains Tigris and Euphrates, precisely because when you first play it, it seems purely tactical (place a tile, get a cube) and what evolves almost seems random chance, but when you get more experienced you realize the strategic impact of your and your opponents' placements outweighs the tactical. I love games that do that. They don't have to be complex, either. Hey! That's my fish is another one that is on the surface level about getting the most fish every turn, but on a deeper level about manipulating the shape of the board.
