freechinanow: Did your family or anyone family you knew have a TV that was built within a wooden cabinet?

Inkedad: My maternal grandparents did, and it only had dials!
pricero1: I guess you mean ones with doors over the screen. They were bought by people who liked to pretend that they were the sort of people who were above such things as watching TV.
Gilgermesh: I grew up with one of those. We also had a VCR that had a series of switches on it that you use to program which channels you wanted to record because there was no on-screen menu.
PolarDad: Of course! Everyone did in the late 70s/early 80s. In fact, my family had one until about the time I was graduating from college.
0Shea0: Got one from the D.I. (thrift store) my freshman year. It had wheels so my roommate and I wheeled it 3 miles back to our dormroom. A bulb was out or something because everything was purple. Played a bunch of goldeneye on that thing. We tried to break it at the end of the year, but the glass was like 4 inches thick apparently.
Woelf: Both sets of my grandparents had the kind with the giant wooden boxes around them. I don’t recall either having doors, but there were shelves on one.
