Grimsalt: What Ruesailmana said. Common sense trumps printed dates, but it goes both ways too, eg. dairy products from non-expired dented tin cans, can cause botulism.

Ruesailmana: I always also check the food visually and for smell and all. I don't like throwing stuff away that's still usable.
