rayzg: Have you ever played a game with boric acid? I bought an “authentic” carrom board from the Little India neighbourhood in Toronto. You’re supposed to sprinkle carrom powder all over the board to make the pieces glide faster. Apparently, this powder is boric acid.

TomTi89: Boric acid? Not sure what that is. Let me look it up. "Boric acid, also called hydrogen borate, boracic acid, and orthoboric acid is a weak, monobasic Lewis acid of boron. However, some of its behaviour towards some chemical reactions suggest it to be tribasic acid in the Brønsted sense as well." Hmmm. I'm gonna need pricero's help on this.
pricero1: Another thing to make things glide is zinc stearate ("fanning powder").
