mattomaw: Is musical artistry in decline? Let me cite an example that has prompted this query. There is an Irish musical suite called Granauille. It tells the story of the Irish female pirate and clan chief Grace O'Malley. Originally released in the eighties, it was great. There is now a new version and it is soulless. A total lack of passion and skill compared to the original. This was true of the musical version of The War of the Worlds. The original was sublime. The remake - pure doggy doodoo. I hear many, many things these days that are pale reflections of previous iterations. Obviously there is still wonderful musical mastery out there today, but as a whole I feel that it is all diluted and formulaic with less and less physical skill. My God!!!! What a load of waffly ould shite!!! Shut up Matt!!! Stop blahing on about stuff you know nothing about and get out and on with your day, you stulid idiot!!!!

Woelf: With musical remakes and covers in general, there's a fine line between changing it too much and not enough. There are loads of bad examples of both, although I think the ones where they try to copy it too closely (and lose what made it special in the first place) are much more common.
