TheGrimReeple: What's something that you thought was more widespread, but later discovered was local to your area?

Grimsalt: Pinworms. When I caught them last summer, I presumed it was from the Sri-Lankans downstairs ; turns out it was from my friend's friend's 4 y/o kindergartener. Pharmacist told me it's endemic in my region. Not so much of a "poor country" disease as medical wikis would have you believe. Go figure.
