PolarDad: My wife was voted teacher of the year at her school this year. Last night was the school district's ceremony to celebrate all 15 schools' teachers of the year and to announce the district teacher of the year that will go on to the state level. My wife was not chosen to move forward and represent the district on the state level. She was actually relieved. It was a ton of work competing on the district level...doing interviews, creating a presentation, making a video, writing a paper explaining your teaching philosophy, procedures and planning, as well as developing a detailed lesson plan just for the process. What was the last time you were glad to not be honored in some way because it would have been too much work?

pricero1: Not being a natural-born American stops me from running as president, which would, in truth, take up too much time.
PolarDad: @Shea-Well, the recognition of your peers and your name on a plaque in the building (if that means anything to someone). We thought that was all but we found out last night at the ceremony that there were also gift bags to every Teacher of the Year. The bags had gifts from local business...several free meals at local restaurants, several free oil changes and tire rotations at local auto shops, and the like from about 12-15 local businesses...best gift was a $500 stipend in her next paycheck!
imyourskribe: Can't think of any based on too much work, but I was glad in retrospect to not get an offer from Facebook a few months before their stock tanked. Congrats! Here's some stock grants! Too bad they'll be worth crap soon!

Woelf: Probably every time I've been honored or considered for an award of some sort. Congrats to her, both on the initial honor and the avoidance of all that other stuff!
