mattomaw: Horizontal. Pointy up is weird.
mr3d: If they are in a grid, I prefer when they are a little bit tilted, with a 3d view vibe to it.
MABBY: I like looking at horizontal on top, but when grouped together the point makes more working sense.
BOBBYCAN: Point on top, so things can move east to west and vice-versa.
rayzg: When I'm making a hexagonal grid of hexagons, I prefer the hexagons to have a point of top as the resulting hexagonal grid of hexagons will have a horizontal line on top.
TomTi89: I'm not too bothered, but I do have a preference towards the horizontal line on top, especially when tessellating. I do prefer the octagon though, even if it doesn't tessellate by itself.
