¿Question #2264?
[Deleted user]: [deleted question]

ikajaste: Strong theme - but abstracts can have a strong theme too. Pasted theme is ok if paste is applied carefully.
Muzza: Strong theme so long as it is backed by good design, game design and graphic design
Gialmere: You had me at, "Do you prefer games."
jcarvin: strong theme
Myrdin T Sasnak: Dunno. Does a pasted theme have anything to do with an Elmer's Experience?
rootbeer: Most of my favourites have what could be considered a "pasted-on" theme. Works for me. I'm not in it for the "let's pretend" factor.
Benzebub: I like theme. But I also appreciate abstracts.
DHEK: Have a strong theme, of course.
Butterbane: abstract
jeffwolfe: I prefer a fun game. For me, none of the things you mention is a good predictor of a fun game.
el_mpfive: a strongly pasted type of abstract theme.
POvidiusNaso: Pasted theme.
sourwyrm: not the last one
airborne101: strong theme
matthewjhoskins: I like good mechanics. Theme is great but not essential.
unixrevolution: Either strong theme or abstract. Don't pretend.
mats-k: Pasted on. I want great art and minimal rules baggage.
millsyboy: I prefer a game with a good, strong, immersive theme.
Son of Murray: As long as the theme (or lack thereof) CONTRIBUTES to the gameplay, it's alright by me.
Shade_Jon: any
vampywife: i prefer games that are fun, regardless of the theme
brainrob: Strong theme
SisyphusX: I don't want the theme to override the playability.
Enno: I don't have much of a preference for either. I prefer depth and complexity.
davidgpeterson: Theme Theme Theme
dietevil: Strong or pasted is fine, but some theme is good
Avatar_69: Strong theme. Give me a storyline and I'm happy.
darquil: I expect them to be pretty, and if a theme helps accomplish that, I'm not too picky about how well integrated into the mechanics the theme is.
scribidinus: Strong theme
FuzzySilk: Doesn't matter, the game play matters. I have games that I like that have a strong theme, that are abstract and just have a pasted theme. Again it's the gameplay I'm there for. Theme does help though.
Helenoftroy: strong theme with great game mechanics
Chris Page: Strong theme.
GrandpaDave: All of the above
Karlsen: Theme, preferably strong, but pasted is often OK
adonismayhem: I enjoy strong themes as long as the game is fun.
ptsuk: Theme is good.
Big A: strong theme
vetinari7878: If the game is good, a strong theme is a plus.
[Deleted user]: ...I just realized how important theme is to me...but, it still has to be a good game...
GeminiWeb: strong theme
Yollege: Doesn't matter to me as long as it's fun.
scriptorum: I prefer a fun game. Some games are fun because of the theme, some games don't need a theme to be fun, but most are in between.
ValJor: I like abstracts, but I also like games with strong theme. Pasted-ons are bad
SteveK2: with a few exceptions (like Blokus), anything but abstract
modboy: STRONG theme.
Evilnames: Abstract
ssmooth: I know great games in all three categories. Sometimes a "pasted theme" bothers me when I know the previous version -- like Atlantic Star will never sit exactly right with me because I played Showmanager first. But mostly I'm looking at game play and whatever effort has been put into decorating/producing the game is just a bonus.
Regault: Strong strong strong theme.
Komodo: Strong theme
SabreRedleg: Strong theme
dbmurph22: pretty thematic, but I like abstracts too
Android: Strong theme.
melissa: have pastel camels
Claytonius Maximus: I prefer they be good.
nickjost: Strong theme
skrutsch: strong theme
Oborro: the theme has to compliment the game play... but it doesnt have to be there... So a toss up between strong and abstract...
starbug: I prefer games with strong themes, but I also like some abstract games like Hive. Lots of micros are relatively abstract, and I like them. I don't tend to like the pasted-on themes that tend to predominate Euros at the moment. I've actually wondered whether they are becoming more common as a result of an attempt to make game components less language-dependent.
Steve Leach: If the game play is good it could have a theme or not.
djlg: I like the mechanisms to fit the theme. Is that the same as "strong theme" or "pasted theme"?
pfoster: Strong theme
Snappatoon: Strong theme
Gecko23: Game themes are *always* superficial, so it doesn't matter.
lwheeler: abstract
Mike A: Yes. I prefer that they be fun, however they are themed.
AWildEep: It's more about game play for me. and fun.
heli: former
shotokanguy: Either strong or abstract, not pasted.
leece: A strong theme!
Windopaene: Prefer some theme to abstract
Lord_Prussian: Strong theme
2amp: not sure what you mean by pasted, so i'll go with abstract
puffinge: I don't like many pure abstracts, but I don't require a very strong theme either.
mrbeankc: strong theme
Mark_WH: Strong Theme
Belash: strong theme
JoeSteadman: it is all about theme!
skelebone: Theme is nice but somewhat unneccessary.
snoozefest: strong
ekted: Don't care as long as they are fun!
kennyb: strong theme , usually
gnomehome: I prefer theme, stong or pasted on doesn't matter that much.
harisiadis: Theme is very important for me. For example I love games like Talisman or Dinosaurs of the Lost World just because they are full of theme. On the other hand most games with a pasted-up theme (and Knizia is the master of this art) leave me cold.
toulouse: doesn't matter
Bearcat89: Abstract or strong theme, no wishy-washy paste-a-theme games!
AlorielLelyn: Strong theme or abstract. Inbetween seldom works.
Spielfreak: Strong theme is better for most of my gaming experiences.
MisterCranky: I prefer games that aren't about paste.
Dave: Doesn't really matter, but obviously some games would suffer without the strong theme.
sos1: I like a select few abstracts, and a few pasted-on themes, but usually prefer strongly themed games.
CDRodeffer: I like all of them.
jttm: Pasted is fine in most cases. All games are abstract anyway
Blackwind: I prefer games to be fun.
Tim Synge: Strong theme - reference Tikal.
CortexBomb: Ideally I like strong themes, but pasted on generally does it for me. Pure abstracts have to be doing something very right to click with me...even though this really doesn't make any objective sense because I almost always abstract a game out into numbers in my head while I'm playing it (i.e.: I don't "get into" my role in the game) but I just enjoy the pretty veneer I guess
chaddyboy_2000: Theme of any kind is nice.
