PolarDad: As you might remember, our microwave died. Yesterday, I bought a new one. This morning, I took down (mounted under cabinet style) the old one...only to discover yet more proof that my house builder was either incompetent or just didn't care. The previous microwave needed 3 screws to secure it...which means three holes in the sheetrock. There are 12 holes (all about a half inch in diameter) in my wall...some overlapping, leaving chunks of missing drywall. I'm not even sure there is enough wall to attach the brace for the new microwave. Isn't home ownership grand?

PolarDad: @Kyle-It is the original. We built the house 9 years ago.
Woelf: Unless your previous microwave was the first one ever installed in the house, it's entirely possible the other holes were from some previous microwave. In any case, I'd probably want to add some blocking to reinforce that wall if the new screw holes are anywhere close to previous ones.
