¿Question #227282?
PolarDad: Continued conversation from earlier... regarding acquired tastes... But seriously, there are so many choices in this world, why force yourself repeatedly to do something or eat something until you find it palatable? The only decent example I heard was Mindy's in an attempt to be healthier. If I don't like a certain veggie or beverage, eat or drink a different one. Right?
Woelf: With kids you do have to push so you don't create monsters that will eat only a few very specific things. As an adult, or even older child/teen, with many things it's not so much forcing yourself to keep trying it until you like it, but being willing to at least try it again if you encounter it at a later time. With some that'll simply confirm that you don't like it, but with other things you may realize they aren't so bad after all.
pricero1: I remember when my daughter was very young. She didn't have to eat everything on the plate, but had to at least try everything. Things which were just tried, but not liked were still put before her in subsequent meals, with the same stricture that she didn't have to finish things, but did have to try everything. There are now very few food items she doesn't like.
Ruesailmana: What Kyle answered to the other question. It also depends on how you were brought up, how much variation in flavour you got from your parents for dinner and all. Basically it will broaden your taste and that is not a bad thing :)
rayzg: I actually agree! When it comes to food, I find that the opportunity to eat something multiple times, even if it's really delicious, is often rare. There's too many other things to try!
Fribian: I like to try new things so long as they don't have guttywuts and bloodywuts.
BOBBYCAN: For some things, like coffee and beer, it could be a social thing, wanting to drink with friends.
PolarDad: This is coming from one of the most adventurous eaters you will ever meet! I will try virtually anything at least once. ...but if I don't care for it, I will move on.
