Woelf: Always check that there's enough butter before starting! Even though oil technically works in some cases, that's not a substitution I'd make. If it was truly urgent, there's a grocery store 10 minutes away.
pricero1: Oil works, though the flavour / flavor of olive oil may detract in some sweet recipes.
Ruesailmana: I sometimes just use the oil instead of the butter. I have some (cake) recipes in which it works really well
