Jatoha: I know someone with Lyme disease and it is not pretty at all, an awful disease. I don't know anyone with the others, so I can't compare. Now, I'll tell you of our Miss Turtle Artist scare this last summer. So we went camping in June and i checked the kids for ticks when we got home as always. However the next evening Miss Turtle asked me about a bump on her back. I thought it looked little a tiny blackhead, it was very small. So, I get out the magnifying glass and it's a TICK! A so tiny tick. We were leaving the next morning to drive to Yellowstone. So, I called the doctor and they said to watch for the ring rash and if she gets a fever and other signs, but that they didn't want to see her until then. So, we set off on our vacation. Well, two days later Miss Turtle Artist wakes up and she cannot move her hand at all. Gawds, I about expired on the spot. But TomA was calm and thought she could have slept on it funny and she was dozing in the car the day before and you know how awkward that sleeping is. So, we decided to wait the day and see what happens. Well, by afternoon it was not any better and was actually worse. So, I called our doctor. By this time we are in the middle of South Dakota. The doctor said, "Go immediately to the first emergency room and get her tested." Comforting. So, now my GPS purchase came in very handy as we found the closest hospital. Poor Miss T despises hospital and doctors and commences weeping pitifully. It was a torrential downpour of rain unlike any I've encountered because it just went on and on and on, so that added to the mood. Well, the South Dakota hospital that we went to (I can't remember the town) was very small but the people were the nicest people you ever have met in your life. Miss T was put immediately at ease. The doctor had never dealt with lyme disease or had tested for it before since it's not common there, but they were very thorough and I think maybe a bit fascinated by the idea of it. However it required a blood test which of course sent Miss T into another frenzy of weepology. THEN we had to wait for the results. All this while the sky dumped the contents of both oceans directly onto the windows of the hospital room we were in. My other two sat in the waiting room watching a Phineas and Ferb marathon, so it wasn't a total loss for them. In the end, everything came back negative, Miss Turtle's hand went back to normal a day later and stayed that way. Later on our trip, I stood in front of the Corn Palace on my cell phone giving the update to our pediatrician which will forever link the Corn Palace to lyme disease in my mind.

Hector Vortac: Haven't dabbled in any of them. I'd go with the most painful and slow one, which from other answers sounds like Lupus.

vampywife: hmm...i'll go with Lupus...here's why: WNV can be treated, so it attacks then it's gone, mostly better; Lyme Disease is a pretty nasty one, but it doesn't always progress into something horrible; Lupus, on the other hand, is a pain-timer waiting to go off.

AlorielLelyn: Close race between Lupus and Lyme disease. Both are degenerative and may eventually kill the victim. West Nile results in a fairly quick "flu like" symptom disease typically resulting in death. A quick death is far preferrable to a slow degenerative death.
