Hector Vortac: I've come to think of it as artists choosing to perform only a pleasant portion of a larger piece, not necessarily with the instruments it was written for.
ZeroZilla: Some Classical music is light (think Beethoven's "Sleepers Awake"), other pieces not so much. Some is actually pretty dark (Not unlike Orff's "Carmina Buranna", although I quite enjoy that), and some is actually pretty dark. Almost insane, or demonic.
