¿Question #28?
CortexBomb: Expansions: Wonderful way to add life to games or wallet leeching horrors from the planet Zebos?
NewTroll: Expansions are awesome. Added fun!
oldhoss: I'm generally against. But there are exceptions.
hellibrarian: Yes.
Papasmerv: Why can't they be both?
wubbins: I refuse to believe anyone, least of all wallet leaching horrors, would name their planet Zebos, so it must be the former.
Woelf: They're not from Zebos.
Kilde: Wonderful way to add life to games.
Bruneleschi: Both
resin: both. I usually only buy the former.
beerbear: I have never bought one of these.
bcooperok: Only when they add a player option do I consider them worthwhile.
Auramine O: Both!
vandemonium: For your sake I hope the former. At least for Age of Steam expansions :p
brad_c_1966: They are the fat tick on the old hound dog.
Zedsdead: 90% of the time I think they're leeches. Cities & Knights of Catan is a rare exception, imo.
hob69: heroscape expansion set number gajillion... shoot me!
Randy Cox: better yet, evidence that the developer didn't do their work or the add-ons would have been included in the base game. Otherwise, they aren't worth it.
diehard4life: Hey, I am from Zebos, and only half of the women are wallet leeching horr.... OOOHHH, nevermind.
DHEK: I'm of the opinion that it's more of the former.
Dipmaster: It belongs to the game. Carcassonne is brilliant without any expansions. Trivial Pursuit lives from the extentions.
Benzebub: Wonderful way to add life to games.
aleo09: depends, heroscape can be both,,, you have to decide what the risk vs. reward is
POvidiusNaso: Wallet leechers.
mrspank: Somewhere in between.
ZeroZilla: Depends on the publisher.
jjloc: ???
Android: Depends. Some yes (Ursuppe), some no (Munchkin)
Kyralia: It's wonderful, if you don't like it, don't buy it!
Roja: Both (can it be?)
mats-k: Customizable is good.
JasonMatthews: Honey, why do these Alhambra expansions have a post-mark from the planet Zebos?
vampywife: A little of both, I think. Some expansions, such as the one to A Game of Thrones, are great additions to make gameplay better. Others, I'm sure, are just milking the gaming cow.
ralpheous: depends on if they're any good.
FuzzySilk: Depends on the game but over all I'ld go with wallet leeches.
Loquutus: Depends on the expansion.
bigbadsteve: they can be both. some do add to the original, while others just capitalize on the name
brainrob: The latter, except the planet part which is just plain stupid
GrandpaDave: The first one
Tennantgamer: depends if the developers actually did the work or if it was just the marketing team
double_ones: Depends on the company
jasta6: Wonderful way to add life to games
_Kael_: Both, mostly. Depends on which we're talking about
Syrion: The latter.
flyinghogfish: Are cool if good
Bahamut-X: both!
GI Joe: Some of both
ssmooth: More often the latter
obob: both
skrutsch: There are some of each.
mrbeankc: Wonderful if they're done well.
sourwyrm: both
CharlieWonka: Add life to old games.
Timothius: Well, both can be very true...
Knowbody: Usually not worth the money.
The Unbeliever: 42
scriptorum: Can go either way, depends. CCGs = Zebos. Duel of Ages = Zebos. Most others = add life.
mandj2001: hmmm.....both
2amp: leeches
Lord_Prussian: leeches generally
kimapesan: Both
chad56s: Depends. There are good and bad. Like movie sequels.
Karlsen: Varies immensely from one to the other depending on the game and the expansion
hpox: Wonderful way to add life...
heli: if you don't want them don't buy them
Wintergoblin: Wonderful way to add life to games
puffinge: more often horrors, but there are some exceptions
Bearcat89: All of the above.
isolated: Both.
UhhhClem: It depends.
AlorielLelyn: Bit of both, I'm afraid. Damn those Zebosians
Glamorous Mucus: No simple answer for that. Some are indispensible, some are a nice option to have available, some are unnecessary, some hurt the game by their very existence.
Wernazuma: can be both
Jackwraith: Wonderful. More. MORE!
m_r_tyler: I have no problem with expansions. If the expansion is no good, word gets out.
fsumarc: depends on if I like the base game or not.
Blackwind: both
Mordachai: Depends on the game.
haraggan: Can be a bit of both... I'm inclined to say more of the latter, but I'm still helpless against them
Grimwold: Wonderfully Compulsory
onky: A wonderful way to leech
Ludocrazy: Add life
djflippy: Depends on the game. For example, I like Settlers expansions, but I think LotR is getting a bit out of hand.
netfilterz: Add life to games. Nobody forces you to buy them, unless it turns out you can't really play the game fully without them...
raolsson: Depends on the game and the expansion... but I lean towards the leech!
Belash: depends on expansion... some very good that add real value... others just suck... but then it is probably a personal thing that only the gamer in question can answer at the time they are trying the new expansion, so I am not quite sure...
djlg: Wallet leeching horrors, except for the ones I just HAD to buy. ;-)
P.O.G.G.: my general experience: wallet leeching
BobDodgerBlue: Both
Scott Tepper: usually wlhftpZ, but there are exceptions.
CheetohFingers: yes
dakarp: The wallet leeching horrors thing, but I still can't resist buying them.
geberus: both
Reloaded: depends, if the games value is increased then wonderful... if the games value is created then horror. :)
jaredh: Both.
louiseh: Usually the second.
ejmowrer: I could do without them.
Pseudo Nymh: Both, in equal proportions.
snoozefest: could be either
Denise: Mostly wallet leeching horrors
Draugnar: depends on the game, but generally wallet leeches
Eric Haas: Depends on the expansion.
Rubric: I like them (the expansions, not the Zeban horrors).
WonderCinz: Depends.
seppo21: I think the second option is a fairly accurate description of CCG expansions. As for boardgames, my experience in general is that they are pretty good. However, Carcassonne seems to have been infected with the CCG virus.
Bannor2000: Good way to add life
TamiWhitsett: ooh... is that a game? I want it.
melissa: Wallet-leeching horrors. Almost invariably
Gelatinous Goo: total waste
tragicpoet: Depends on the expansion.
Lardarse: Necessary to make some games less boring.
dietevil: Depends on the game
CDRodeffer: Some of both.
skelebone: I'm usually pro-expansion.
Ryno8: either or....
chaddyboy_2000: Depends which game.
Mndwrm: Depends on the expansion--and at the worst, take the expansion out, burn it, and pretend it never existed.
rochs77: Wallet leeches
Gregarius: Both and neither, depending on the game
TD2008YDS: both, in most cases
Zambogirl: they add life if they're well done
Friendless: WLHFTPZ
Slin: Depends on the company that made them.
WasQ: wonderful, you can always choose to add or not
shumyum: Zebos by Jebos.
Dante_Cubit: Depends on the game. All CCGs are leeches.
mvonahnen: Both
sumo: Mixture
gnomehome: Both are possible
MisterCranky: Everything is a wallet leeching horror from somewhere, but some expansions are also fun.
Jon_1066: Zebos
Latria: Death to expansions (unless they encourage reprints)
Flyspeck23: Depends on the game/expansion, but usually the wonderful way...
Septic: I would like to say life-giver, but couldn't they have thought of the "extras" before release?
Fawkes: It depends.
hooded_paladin: Good, because if they're bad you don't have to buy them. Would you rather they were inside the box and added to the cost?
peterk: WW2AL
manowarplayer: Love expansions.
Mike A: Depends on the game
ynnen: Good expansions increase play value, bad expansions are worse than a flesh eating virus.
janiera: Depends on the game.
Shakar: Sadly both.
HBGlover: Zebosians all deserve the same fate: death by the flame!
tiredmind: It really depends, but it sometimes feels like the latter, these days.
ValJor: The second option
ping9x: Wallet leeching horrors from the planet Zebo
Aldie: wha?
natemike: Expansions add life to games while leeching from your wallet.
CortexBomb: Depends. If they add something to the game without completely altering it and are cheap I like them. Vast alterations are not cool though.
jttm: Thats not an "OR" question.
