¿Question #3175?
Tim Synge: Power Grid. Do you find the theme of the game convincing?

AnthonyDuricko: As of now, I remain unconvinced. But what do I know?
Woelf: There are games that integrate their themes far better and many that do it far worse, but it really doesn't matter with PG because it is such a great game.
Narlgoth: I find your lack of faith disturbing.
Felimid: It doesn't need to be *that* convincing. It's a fun game.
jessitron: no, but whatever
pooterbug: never thought about it.
Hendal: eh, to long for me
AllenDoum: Yes. It helps when explaining the mechanics.
vandemonium: I am convinced it is a darn fine game.
cgund: never played
TMuscle: Yes.
POvidiusNaso: Sure.
DHEK: Convincing enough for me.
elirlandes: The theme of a game is unimportant to me. The game and how good it is to play is what matters to me.
Der Ubermolch: Absolutely. You can even tell it's a socialist system because you still get ten dollars even if you don't power any buildings.
aleo09: yes, but i have yet to play
evilone: Are game themes ever truly convincing? I find its theme no more or less convincing than many others.
purvisa: It's scary that I can answer this, but yes. The game is broken, of course, but the concept could be made to work.
Red Dragon: As a game, it's an interesting but unexciting thought problem; as a simulation of power-distribution infrastructure, it's ludicrously inaccurate. For one thing, you don't have to specify WHERE you build the power plants.
Myszka: Yes, and very amusing :)
ZiggyZambo: yes
Capitaine Grappin: no
zappothedude: No
KDSN: very
brainrob: I did in the original version
kroxldyphivc: Sure, why not?
dietevil: Yes
Maraud: Yes.
Chris Page: Yes.
mrspank: No, but it's supposed to be a great game anyway.
bigbadsteve: somewhat
bekudno: Maybe it doesn't hold up under careful scrutiny, but I think the spirit is there.
Loquutus: Sure do. My mantra is, "This is NOT a train game."
SenorOcho: Hey, at least its more convincing than Tigris & Euphrates, right?
JohnnyD: No
Yollege: Never played
GuyHill: no
puffinge: I haven't played it, but theme isn't all that important to me anyway.
skrutsch: Haven't played yet, but I've read the rules to Funkenschlag and find it convincing.
MisterCranky: Yes. I am convinced that the power utilities operate in exactly this fashion. Did I mention that I am not only insulated from the day to day operations of just about everything outside my house?
sourwyrm: yah it's fine
rdmasters: No.
dakarp: Nah, but that doesn't keep it from being fun.
djlg: Yes.
ssmooth: I think it needs a trumpet obligato in the third chorus
Lord_Prussian: I think the theme fits the game well. So if that is convincing, then yes.
JimPAX: Was I supposed to believe that America needed me to solve it's energy issues?
jttm: Sigh... all games are abstract. A theme is just a theme.
snoozefest: sure
CortexBomb: Definitely, it makes it much easier to explain the game actually
heli: sure
CDRodeffer: It's just OK. I'm not all that thrilled with Power Grid as a game.
chaddyboy_2000: Yeah, it works well.
skelebone: It's convincing enough. I don't believe that I'm actually burning radioactive materials in the nuclear power plants, but it's close enough.
Spielfreak: It's OK. I actually prefer the original Funkenschlag
