cgund: I like to say "pop" because it's what my family said when I was tiny. For years I lived in Calif, where NOBODY calls it pop, so it was fun to call it that.
jdroscha: Soda is ambiguous; could be made with ice cream. Tonic has no syrup. Coke is a brand name. A soft drink is not necessarily carbonated. That leaves pop, which is what I call it. Around here, we also sometimes say soda, or even soda-pop.
