hob69: Hmmm. Well, it depends on what you mean by "B" movie (audience snores). Strictly speaking, you're talking about a 'b' feature on a full cinema programme in the classic era of film exhibition, or a film made for exhibition in such a context (lower budget, less well known cast and crew, lower expectations in terms of publicity and profile), but the term 'b' movie is often used to refer to any low budget production these days. Roger Ebert once remarked that Hollywood never stopped making 'b' movies, it just gave them 'a' budgets, and that adds a further complication to any answer. Yes, I teach film studies, and if you're still reading at this stage, I hope you've enjoyed the journey. scriptorum: Literally, a "B movie" was the second movie shown at a movie theatre in the 40s and 50s. I recall reading that Casablanca was a B movie, so I pick that one.
