¿Question #3519?
jakoky: Ok, i have been reading about settlers of catan and it sounds like a great game...what i want is an opinion on whether a first time player should get the original or the travel version(due to price difference)...if i got the travel one to try it, would it be good enough to play all the time...thx for any opinions.

Hendal: get the original, the travel is to small, and you will like it, and your friends will also
Woelf: Avoid "travel" versions of games at all costs. The only reason you should ever own one of those is because you already love the real game but find it too cumbersome to travel with, or in the rare cases the travel version offers some additional gameplay options (like a 2-player version that's not viable with the original.)

DHEK: I'd strongly suggest getting the original version. The travel version just doesn't look very nice and it isn't very good, in my opinion.

ZombyDawg: Standard game has larger pieces and is easier to play on a table with a few friends. Plus you can use different set-ups and use the expansions if you want.

Ludocrazy: Yes, I think so. It's only drawback is the dessert never moves, but that's pretty minor.
Great Dane: The travel edition is fine. If this is not enough will you probably want to buy all the expansions as well.

Spielfreak: Get the original. The travel edition has a fixed layout, or is otherwise not as flexible as the original, thereby limiting replay value.
djlg: Get the full version. Its still pretty damn cheap and the travel version would be annoying to play regularly.
heli: (This question would be better under the SoC entry.) I find the travel one good enough to play a lot. What I'd do is get the cheaper one and then if you like it, get the more expensive one and give it to your best gaming buddy for his or her birthday.
skelebone: The travel version is o.k. but the desert is always fixed at the center hex, and the cards are much smaller.
