heli: Is money the new sex, i.e. the topic that goes undiscussed? e.g. people have not been shy about asking about sex here, but no one has broached how much anyone makes. What does our society gain/preserve by not discussing this?

DHEK: Money is not the new sex. It's just not a very interesting subject that's why it's not asked so much. I mean, not many (if any at all) ask about avacadoes but that doesn't mean avacadoes are the new taboo subject. And our society doesn't gain anything from your foolish preconceptions.

vampywife: I think the lack of money questions is probably because sex is more interesting for most people to talk about. I do think that people are a bit hesitant to approach the topic, though, because a) they don't want to be made to feel like they are the underdogs; b) they don't want to make others feel inferior; or c) the amount made isn't necessarily the amount availble for spending, so the question wouldn't give much of an accurate basis for some people. That's about all I can think of on this one :)
