tankexmortis: I think someone having a big pretend sky daddy to tell them what to think is pretty damn pathetic, but I won't say it to their face - at least not in those words - because I also think people shouldn't be mean (that's not a religious belief, that's just a regular belief).
martijnh: I was a christian, but I 'resigned' from that religion at my 17th or so. I'm an athiest now.
MisterCranky: I believe that people who are religious just don't want to face the facts. This, coupled with the "fact" that nobody knows what the facts are, makes for an insidious brew. I call my religion: "Insidious Fact Brewishness."
hob69: Spiritual, yes. Religious, no. Religion is just a set of opinions and interpretations, and I'm not prepared to accept anyone else's answers as truth, merely as something to think about while I continue my own journey towards understanding.

TheMoss: I'm a Latter-day Saint, so I believe in Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. (See www.lds.org for more beliefs). I hold these beliefs because of personal spiritual experiences that I have had as I have read and prayed about these doctrines.

jcarvin: I believe that God used evolution as a tool to form the earth and all beings. Why? Because it seems reasonable and so many facts point to both directions.
DHEK: I'm leaning more towards a secular point of view, although I have a Catholic background. Why? Because I'm not a very religious person and I find greater comfort in "areligousness" and science and logic make more sense to me.

Why, because after investigating, I have come to the conclusion that Christianity is the only religion that has all of the following at the same time: 1. strong historical evidence, 2. personal experience, 3. a God worth following, 4. a God that transcends the universe, 5. sound moral teachings, 6. gives power to its people, 7. is available to everyone, 8. is intellectually defendable and 9. offers a community that cares for and challenges you

MaksimSmelchak: I'm Jewish. I like Judaism and any beleif system encouraging people to treat others better is a good one in my book. Everytime I hear people say that religion is a crutch, simple superstition or "the opiate of the masses," I feel like they've missed the point. Religion is ultimately a way for us to understand that there is a part of ourselves and our lives that can't be empirically measured or observed. People are more than tests and measurements. Ultimately it calls for faith (trusting others) and helps us to realize that we all have more in common as human beings than not. That's not such a bad thing.
Beelzebub: Atheism - because I am an intelligent, rational person who doesn't need superstitions in my life.
jace_813: Athiest - I feel that religion is a crutch to help people move on with their life by explaining the unexplainable ("It's God's will,"). I can accept that we don't understand everything so I feel that I don't need religion to move on with my life and live a moral existence.

CortexBomb: The only religious belief I have is that god as the entity is commonly understood (creator of us specifically, interested in our problems, &c.) is terribly flawed. God as such is often cited as being necessary as a first cause (causa sui) but that begs the question of what the cause of that god was, which leaves us in exactly the same place we would have been without bothering to put god into the equation to begin with! (all of this of course is assuming that cause - effect relationships are actual, a belief that I do subscribe to). I could be persuaded to be a deist (the "philosopher's god") but never anything more than that.
