¿Question #3792?
mrbeankc: Do you prefer games with historical themes or fantasy/sci fi themes?

ocdspectrum: I really like them all.
Woelf: The latter, but both can be good.
chearns: I think I prefer contemporary themes, although I don't mind if the settings are historically flavoured, fantasy, or scifi, whichever is best for evoking the theme.
AlexDespres: In the abstract, sci fi. Some of my favorite games are historical. I go where the good games take me.
cycyx: Fantasy & Sci fi
Zerothi: fantasy/sci fi
Felimid: Historical more than fantasy/sci-fi, but both are okay.
grafikchaos: Historical, but I love both.
bcooperok: Both. Simultaneously, actually.
turbothy: Historical
Kronman: Fantasy/Sci Fi
sovSoyuz: historical, there are not many good fantasy
Polgara: fantasy or historical
vandemonium: Fantasy/sci fi
Ashton: Of course the answer is the one with dwarves, dragons, spaceships and magic.
jdberry: Either, as long as they're fun.
fordescort79: Historical because fantasy games seem silly to me
sivoe: Anything goes.
Ronara: Fantasy themes
hannibal twin 8: Gee, I love both so much!
aleo09: no preference
sffh: both are good, but I prefer games with historical/fantasy themes before sci-fi :)
DHEK: Historical. It's easier to relate to. However, fantasy / sci-fi themes aren't too bad either.
TaliaIsabelle: Fantasy/Sci-Fi is preferable to historical themes
screwnut75: Both.
Der Ubermolch: So long as the theme is moderately coherent, I don't care. It's easier to make a coherent theme out of fantasy or sci-fi, because reality doesn't matter so much.
notlobot: In order of preference: sci-fi, historical, fantasy
mbthrift: Historical
Numskull: Historical, not for the themes themselves, but because fantasy and sci-fi themes tend to be attached to the types of games I don't enjoy.
Chris Page: Bean themes.
ZiggyZambo: Historical
mcross: Fantasy/sci fi
brainrob: Depends on how the game works
Helenoftroy: I really like both
scribidinus: Historical. Then Sci-fi and fantasy is last.
SkyBry: Hmmm... 50/50, I think...
POvidiusNaso: Historical.
KDSN: either
Fawkes: Historical.
Tushratta: Historical themes.
bigbadsteve: historical
Loquutus: Doesn't matter.
Chemik: historical all the way.
haraggan: Fantasy/SF themes if they're wargames
LemonyFresh: the Latter
phurballdj: Fantasy/SF
michilius: fantasy/sci fi
tim-pelican: Yes. Ancient history is good. Modern history is OK if it doesn't mean knowing or caring too much about the hardware. Fantasy or sci-fi usually good unless it's unintentional cheese. (Deliberate over-the-top cheese - "so bad it's good!" - is fine.)
sbszine: Doesn't matter, as long as the theme sits well. There's not a lot of good SF themed stuff so I'm keen to see more of that.
Unitbuster: You can't ask me to make this decision... good lord.
e.c.r.: historical
davebo: f/s
ssmooth: No, I barely care.
jellospike: fantasy/sci fi
Null Signature: Sci-fi/technofantasy
skrutsch: historic
scriptorum: I enjoy them both.
Karlsen: Probably prefer Science Fiction themes, but there's not many around and even fewer good ones :-)
Bandit Ripshawd: Fantasy/Sci Fi, if had to choose between the two.
Unexpected Party: fantasy
Lord_Prussian: I like both.
dietevil: Fantasy/Sci-Fi, but really overall not that picky
Bluenose: Either
Dementomstie: Depends on how they are used. Usually enjoy fantasy/sci-fi games for the depth they can give in areas that exceed historical abilities, but historical games or games with limited technology(I'm thinking Settlers of Catan here) are also great if the game is worked out well. Mostly it depends more on the ability of the designer to work out any bugs that the game system might have and to make it work rather than setting, at least for me.
CDRodeffer: With my wife's family, historical. With my side of the family, fantasy / sci-fi.
CortexBomb: Historical
chaddyboy_2000: Fantasy.
skelebone: I'm indifferent on theme.
Dave: Fantasy if it's more Euro-ish, historical if it's more wargame-ish.
SteveK2: historical
ValJor: Historical
wiley1za: They're both awesome
jttm: Definitely sci-fi, fantasy
