oldhoss: Long ago, aliens came to this planet. After a series of anal probings they decided that life on this planet was not ready to receive their infinite greatness and serve as their trust slaves and that we needed more time in the incubator, so to speak. Knowing that it might take millennia for us to advance to an alien acceptable level, they decided to speed up the process by leaving numbers hidden over the earth. Eventually the numebrs were discovered, leading to increased visits and anal probings from the aliens. Good times all around.

scriptorum: Invented. Numbers don't exist as a tangile thing. Quantity is a concept invented to help our feeble minds reduce things to simple patterns of identity. It's since become oh so very useful. We've really made great use out of numerical paradigms. Does it sound like I know what I'm talking about, because I'm just BSing.
