¿Question #4032?
[Deleted user]: [deleted question]

dpep13: Sounds like a basic logic problem from middle school. If A = B, and B = C, A doesn't necessarily = C. But in the context of board games, winning as the goal is what drives fun!
Aardvarkius: Yes and no one.
tankexmortis: I believe that you are - SHOCKINGLY! - hung up on semantics instead of paying attention to the spirit of the saying (which itself was, I assume, either spoken by someone who does not speak English as their first language, or translated into English from another language).
TunaSled: teh gaol awlays = teh win
Woelf: Try or try not; there is no do.
powwowdancer: Winning is indeed the goal but the purpose is the play. How one plays is of greater consequence than what one plays.
CmdrAndros: Exactly.
jasta6: Wow you think about this stuff too hard man............................................................................................................
Randy Cox: Incorrect premise. Having fun=the goal.
Zuhkov: Goals imply thinking ahead, which hurts
aleo09: ok
Patticus: rant
DHEK: Yes, winning is important. But it is not the MOST important thing. The most important thing is to have fun. So, if you can win but you can't have fun, by your own definition, who gives a f.f. about winning then?
themagni: Your first supposition is false. The goal is to have fun.
Nuanda: Football players do!
vampywife: hmm...you raise an interesting point.
Ebon Wendigo: There are levels of importance. It is not that winning is not an important thing, it is just not the only important thing.
2amp: my goal=have fun. don't care if i win or lose. i will TRY to win, of course!
Kazin: Winning isn't the goal. Gloating is the real goal ;)
iamalias: Syntax Error!
paulgo: but winning != the goal
dmomo: I hate goals
ZiggyZambo: Winning is important. I can have fun even if I don't win, but I can't have fun unless I'm trying my hardest to win.
The-Prophet: Exactly.
Cut & Space: Winning is the only goal, until you lose...
Russ G.: Yes. The person who has that goal. Winning is not everything. (especially if you only need a 4th place or higher finish to clinch the championship.
dragonewtking: but is winning always the goal?
ZombyDawg: There is no winning without playing. There is no playing without the Game. The Game is the most important. The game must be played. If you're not trying to win you're not really playing (unless it's the Ungame but that's not really a game, is it?)
Cromaa: Yes. Anyone who says winning isn't important is lying.
Nekura: You should play for fun. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't try to win, but you should enjoy the playing as much or more than the winning itself. Otherwise you won't be happy unless you win all the time which isn't likely to happen.
Mordachai: I like to win, I dislike to lose, isn't that enough?
rawdawg: huhh?
bigbadsteve: are we playing soccer here?
Young David: is this a retho
shawn_low: Greg Scholesser.
Famous Mortimer: Yes. Marvel Comics would probably give an FF about the goal.
Loquutus: Its the path, not the destination.
lord_cheerios: Winning is everything - if you can win at games you can win at life...
nerman8r: Trying to win creates a more fun atmosphere for a game, but ultimately you shouldn't be attaached to winning.
POvidiusNaso: You said it, I think.
Belash: i like goals. I am desperately in need of one.
skrutsch: I'm not sure winning is the goal.
GrandpaDave: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!
slapdash: yes, no one
puffinge: Amazingly enough, I can't follow all that.
djlg: The goal isn't important. The journey is.
Lord_Prussian: Exactly
chaddyboy_2000: I don't give a crap.
CDRodeffer: You're waxing zen again.
skelebone: f.f.? You mean flying fuck or Friedmann Friese?
jttm: Ah, but if the goal is losing, then winning is losing, then it doesn't matter about the goal, does it?
Spielfreak: I always play to win, but it is the journey of playing the game that matters to me, not the end result.
