¿Question #4127?
jellospike: Do you agree with this: a Nerd is good at school (math, physics, etc...), a Geek is "into" something (boardgames, Star Trek, RPG, whatever) and a Dork is socially awkward or shy. You can be everything at once.

Hendal: yep, and yep
SilhouetteLie: Nerds, by your definition, are more likely to be people that want to study or do school stuff over recreational things. Being good at school doesn't make a nerd.
Felimid: Yes. I'm a Geek and a Dork, then.
Caerid: sounds good to me
milank: yes
KillerPower: Nope... A Nerd has a great knowledge about a lot of topics, whereabout a Geek has a lot of knowledge about one or two very specific ones. So you can't be both, a Nerd AND a Geek...
senorcoo: On the nosey.
Gamesmeister99: YES!
Spirit of 70: I suppose.
kathleenryan: Yes, I agree. But it takes someone quite special to fit into all three categories.
atrium: yes
Woelf: Sure, that works. Some overlap is expected.
pwilz: These terms are generally interchangable, so I don't understand the point of trying to classify them like you are doing. If someone calls someone else a geek, and I explain to them these differences, I feel like I'm coming off as a bit of a jackass, though you may have your own definition of what that means, too.
Cringing Dragon: I think that pretty much covers it.
potza4: Couldn't have said it better myself.
Phil Fleischmann: No, I don't. A nerd is a "square" - a term that hasn't been widely used since the 1950's or so - someone who is into academic or obscure pursuits *To the exclusion of socialization*. He's socially awkward, boring, or otherwise less than fully able to get along with non-nerds. A Geek is a circus performer who bites the heads off of live animals or does other gross stunts. The term can be extended to mean someone who's not only socially awkward, but a freak; someone who not only picks his nose, but eats it. The word "dork" is an alteration of the word "dick", and has come to mean something like a fusion between Nerd and Dick - someone who is not only nerdy, but contemptibly so. Nerds are "into" something (Star Trek, computers, games). Geeks may be into something more socially outre (facial piercings, BDSM) or not. Dorks may be into something. And you can be "into" something without being any of the above.
Megadev: Yes. And yes you can be all at once, but deciding which title is most appropriate would certainly be debatable.
vandemonium: Sure.
1000rpm: Sounds like a reasonable definition. Maybe check wikipedia for a mass view.
aleo09: whatever
fordescort79: If you really want to categorize so narrowly then it is good
mckeon13: I think that nerd, geek, and dork are all very close in origin. For a practical purpose could you interchangeable for someone that does not understand the difference. Simply put, the grey areas between the 3 areas is large and overlaping
DHEK: Yeah, that sounds like a good set of definitions. I'd give you a thumbs up if GeekQuestions could be recommended.
Raukodraug: Yes.
fenwic: Sure.
adiamant: Yes
arkibet: no
Leo-T: sure
heli: A geek is a guy who lived at the bottom of a pit and bit the heads off live chickens so a geek emphasizes the meaning "weird, unlike normal society and maybe out of desperation". A dork is a euphemism for another word that starts with d and ends with k and is a nickname for the best part of a man so dork emphasizes the meaning stupid/bestial because that is how men are when they think with that. The original meaning of nerd is obscure to me, but seems best defined by now by the Revenge of the Nerd movies which depicted those specific behaviors.
GrimJester: Yeah that seems to work. Clever.
petepat: i dont think so, i am nerd and cool at the same time
scriptorum: Meh, they're all subjective terms that vary depending on the peer group you are talking to. I imagine the "boardgamegeek" folks here will say a geek is an obsessive hobbyist.
Beelzebub: That sums it up.
waddball: Can't, quite. Nerds and geeks are into dorky subjects/interests, so all nerds and geeks are dorks. Some dorks are not nerds or geeks. Let's ask Irving Copi.
Sandsquish: Yes. And and it looks like I am. Sad, huh?
puffinge: I'm a gerd, or is it a neek?
davidgpeterson: A dumbass asks a stupid question like that...
AKAKitescreech: Sums it up neatly
crimsonking: yes, yes, yes and yes
BakeliteTM: What if you are "into" something that isn't geeky? What is geeky?
jasta6: Yes, thanks for pointing me out that way.....................................
Helenoftroy: For the most part but I thought dorks had to be smart too.
dwarf: I agree with the first two. Dork is more of a clutz.
oceanika: I think it's a bit more involved than that
Bridget J: So, you're a Gnork?
MochaKimono: I'm the first two. But I'm also a chick, which makes me cooler.
confuse_a_cat: That's roughly how I've heard them used.
brainrob: No
RealBadMoFo: Dammit, there goes my chances at reproduction!
Chemik: That's pretty good 'cept for Dork. I see a dork as some combo of a nerd with a clutz.
jellospike: Yay! It's the first time I hit one of my questions!
bigbadsteve: sounds about right
Cavedog_pdx: You're such a spazz!
JCooperofCharity: Yes, That defines me.
sdownin: yes
Loquutus: Absolutely. Although I would add dorks are the ones who don't go to cons.
JamesT: Sure, sounds about right
thegroff: I agree with Nerd and Geek defs, but dork is a "do you ever listen to yourself?"
Null Signature: yes you Neerk/Gord/Derk
skrutsch: Yeah, that's probably a good definition for each. I'm all 3.
Don Quixote: Yes, though your question leaves little room for discussion.
Great Dane: I wouldn't know
snoozefest: y
Lord_Prussian: Seems reasonable, but not the only possible use of the words.
CortexBomb: Nerd to me definitely implies an interest in gear-oriented things such as math and computer programming...I don't consider people who are, for instance, well-versed in mythology or what to be nerds inherently. I also think at least nerd and dork connotate a social handicap of some sort...and Geek at some level probably does as well, though our self-perception of this is obviously altered when we take that label on...face it, we're not going to get an easy answer to this one anytime soon
chaddyboy_2000: I would agree with most of that.
skelebone: Sounds reasonable enough.
CDRodeffer: I suppose it would be possible, according to these definitions. How to you define jock, preppy, bully and goth?
Spielfreak: ok
jttm: A dork is a whale's pee-pee.
