¿Question #4156?
dr glaze et al: Suppose there was a company that takes firm pre-orders for games by having prospective buyers submit their credit card numbers. If you found your card charged $34 + shipping and the game did not arrive for a year, would you continue to support them? Furthermore, how would you respond to find that the game was later reduced to $10 in price or free with purchase of the expansion?
BOBBYCAN: Yes. Smile and ask for more.
Skwib: I would go apeshit and probably ram my shopping cart at the supermarket into the Progresso Soup display.
MisterCranky: I will answer this later, when I think of something hilarious to say.
Streven: I would be wary... but would be pleasantly pleasured by the eventual payback. People need to learn trust and patience. I have bills to pay though.
Mechatoad: no, I would call the company
Electric Joe: No, and wrathfully.
toucana: ditch em
Spirit of 70: I would no longer do business with that company.
Hector Vortac: Really depends. How badly did you want it? I have pre-ordered exactly 1 game. It took 9 months and I don't regret it. There are just too many existing games I'm already happy to play.
rseater: disgruntled
vandemonium: I would incite a revolt against the company. Then I'd go eat a mooseburger.
Barticus88: I would find them and I would kill them.
Polgara: no
cubeblue: Bitter much?
Randy Cox: I would no longer pre-order from them (and precious few other money-first I-don't-want-to-take-any-risk manufacturers). I wouldn't be too upset about the reduction later on, though.
Geosmores: I would not support a company that took my money before the game shipped
Ardos: Is this some roundabout question assessing the marketing strategies of MMPOGs?
MotUfan: I don't pre-order games. Secondly, I expect new, better deals to come out to further stimulate sales.
DKahnt: no, ask for money back
spacerx: i would not trust that company, i would never order directly from them again and i would find some effective and appropriate means of lodging a complaint.
aleo09: pissed
sdonohue: There are a lot of decaffeinated brands that are just as tasty as the real thing.
DHEK: I'd be very upset with the company and demand compensation or a refund if the game still hasn't arrived in a year... especially if I wasn't made known of this fact when I preordered. But if you were told of this then you're stuck there, of course. On the price reduction or freebie, I'd complain too. If the company doesn't respond favorably to me I'd stop supporting them anymore.
eddyspaghetti: Would not support, and would let people know why.
jmrichar: I have never preordered a boardgame - but I might if I liked wargames more.
gf_ripper: No and I wouldn't have waited a year to find out what happened to it. I would also sue if they didn't refund my money.
Brentoon: Has this happened to you?
zatchmo: Ummm...too many numbers.
xlorp: Is this a hypothetical question?
Thesp: I would kill them. Slowly. With subpeonas.
cad614: I would never order from that company again.
Cromaa: No. Make sure I got the same deal.
vampywife: i certainly wouldn't support a company that didn't ship my product. i would first check with them to see if it was shipped and search for it through the mailing channels, though. if the company reduced it's price around the time of shipping, i would request a refund for the difference.
Dorque: Sucker.
brainrob: No - and be extremely peeved
LemonyFresh: Is this based on an actual event?
bigbadsteve: i would be using my jedi powers
skrutsch: I'd contact them and exaplain waht happened. It may have been lost in the mail.
Igloo cool: ?????
Windmilling: Depends on how they respond to my civil question on service...
djlg: I'd be calling them after a month or so first. Otherwise: Depends on whether this is a rare event. Livid.
puffinge: My bitterness detector is so going off.
Cavedog_pdx: You should call your credit card issuer and dispute the charge.
gt8595b: I would be pissed. I don't know what I would do. Does the game rock balls? If it does then you might think it's safe to trust that game company, but if it doesn't then I would be reluctant to do pre-order business with them again
yossarians: no and I'd be pissed
skelebone: That would burn me up. I would refute the first charge with the credit card company after the product was failed to be delivered.
jttm: Indeed. I would buy multiple copies this time, to make it doesn't get lost again.
CortexBomb: In order: No. And I would demand a retroactive price break.
Lord_Prussian: I don't do preorders.
chaddyboy_2000: That would be lame.
CDRodeffer: I would not be happy being charged before shipment, but after-the-fact price changes (in this case a radical drop to dump inventory) can't always be avoided.
