¿Question #4299?
Lord_Prussian: What do you think about the "bell curve" debate that pops up now and again regarding rating of games on BGG?
pricero1: It's normal.
senorcoo: Yawn.
Felimid: I think excluding Quasimodo is inexcusable.
Spirit of 70: I don't give it much thought. I'm glad that people rate games, I suspect all of us rate them a little high because we are a community of enthusiasts, but I don't think any of it is worth any worry.
vandemonium: I think the rating of games whines are monsterously ludicrously hideously positively stooopid.
2amp: crap. I don't rate on bell curve. I have to be deeply moved/offended by a game to rate it. I've never said "wow, this was mediocre, I can't wait to rate it!". Besides, I've started giving a lot of "8"s to help the "recommendation" feature.
Polgara: bell curves are your friend
BaSL: I missed that debate.
Capitaine Grappin: It is as pointless as the ¨fiddly games¨ debate
aleo09: not an issue for me
dmomo: nothing
elirlandes: Like every other phenomenon in nature, given a large enough population, the normal distribution curve will be apparent.
TheArchAngel: its there
DHEK: What "bell curve" debate?
POvidiusNaso: It's stupid. Ratings will sort themselves out. People get too upset about that stuff.
heavymetalhamster: YAWN!!!
XanderF: It's probably a good idea. Minimizes the problem with shills, anyway.
brainrob: I don't
nexttothemoon: To each their own...I rate em as I see em and don't alter, cook or "fudge" my ratings in any way.
jasta6: it rings sour with me...... When the bell tolls we will all fall short in Gods eyes less Jesus saves us....
djlg: Couldn't care.
vetinari7878: I'm agnostic on that.
ct_cruiser: Haven't had time to formulate a strong opinion
chargetheguns: I'm highly in favor of belle curves, especially in the best proportions.
Loquutus: A beel curve is a natural distribution. How am I supposed to feel about it?
Famous Mortimer: Not much. Over time, games end up rated about where they should be.
Fawkes: Geeks will debate anything.
AbeLincoln: i think debate is good and healthy, though a bit tedious cuz no one ever changes their mind.
flyinghogfish: Hurrah!
ctalbot: What's a bell curve? ;)
ssmooth: I'm not familiar with it.
GuyHill: nothing
scriptorum: I'm unfamiliar with the bell curve debate.
Belash: i don't think about it
GrandpaDave: I don't care all that much
chaddyboy_2000: I could care less.
Debate: I can't comment as I haven't seen any debate, although the bell curve is a universal constant so in general I vote yes.
Spielfreak: It's a lot of hyperbole
jttm: Don't really care. The good games are on top. Bad games are below.
CortexBomb: I try not to, it's all just statistical masturbation as far as I'm concerned
skelebone: I disagree with it. I think if one were randomly buying games, or playing everything that came to market, it might have some merit, but since most users purchase games based on the ratings of others, I think the games are going to skew to the top.
CDRodeffer: It's probably hogwash. That said, my 532 ratings have taken on a rough bell shape.
Lord_Prussian: It seems pretty silly
