¿Question #4354?
Cavedog_pdx: Tell me - what is the historical significance of the Diet of Worms?
ocdspectrum: Off the Wikipedia for all the facts.
caractus: Presumably the 1521 Diet. More crap that caused more people to die in the name of a god. If it hadn't been this, it would have been something else though.
Tunicate: It named Martin Luther a heretic, and made him eat worms as punishment.
Woelf: Dirt?
Felimid: The first instance of "bait-and-switch" in a church council setting.
Hendal: very good poop for fertilizer?

Killermyth: They aren't worms, they are actually pilots that run the huge alien ship in the movie "Independence Day", why else did the guy run his ship into it? He's afraid of them, and he was in terror and excidentily ran into it
Tushratta: It's where Martin Luther defended his 95 theses before the emperor Charles V and the imperial diet.

chaddyboy_2000: I don't even know what you're talking about.
CDRodeffer: It had nothing to do with what it sounds like. It was a religious congress.
skelebone: Hmm.. seems like I've heard of the Concord of Worms, but not the Diet of Worms? Was that covered in the book "How to Eat Fried Worms"?
CortexBomb: Luther effectively began the Protestant reformation as a movement there. Prior to that he had been under the impression that his theses would lead to possible reform of the church. When he was expunged from the church at Worms, his movement diverged more rapidly with Catholocism and the split as we understand it became nigh inevitable.
Spielfreak: Oh c'mon, any birdbrain could answer that one...
Thedalek: It's something Russian military used to require of their training soldiers, to demonstrate dedication to service and field survival skills.

Lord_Prussian: It has to do with the Reformation and Luther and the Papacy somehow. That fully taxes my knowledge of it.
