Dammawail97: Considering the amount of time and money I have spent recently for fix-it-up I have to say that there is no "best" store. Lowe's tends to have a broader selection of simple project supplies and tools. Home Depot I have used for millwork, lighting and paint as the selection is better. Those are the two main stores in my area, but I have used ACE Hardware for more specialized tools and parts back when I lived up north.

DHEK: I don't know. I don't frequent home improvement stores much. There is one at the neighbourhood mall near where I live which offers good service, though. But I can't remember its name. It's part of a chain.
