¿Question #4624?
Gialmere: True Life Gaming: During a card game, has a person sitting next to you ever been so bad at hiding/holding his or her cards that you couldn't help but look at them? Did you then utilize the ill-gotten knowledge?

ocdspectrum: This is every game with my family.
Myok: Oh heck no, I give due warning first: "Dude! I can see your cards when you hold them like that!" If he still does it after the fair warning, sure, I take advantage.
HEdwards: yes. and yes, but to my own disadvantage. i felt so guilty at my advantage that i would not steal from that person even when i felt that was the best option.
MisterCranky: John Henry reminds you, "Only YOU can join COLA!"
Woelf: I've seen it, but I try not to use it.
Corran Horn: Yep. Maybe, but I'm not sure...
Joshx: Yes... but I try not to, it's just so hard when they're showing their hand so blatantly!
Jythier: Yes. Yes sometimes, no sometimes.
hob69: Yeah, I think so.
falloutfan: Yes, and No. I usually push their card up so I can't see them.
ricardofo: never. I am honest
sludgemariner: Yes. Yes
Pinhead: Yes
Zarion of Arabel: yes, why not?
gmcash: yes, tried not to
waza: Yes, it's almost impossible not to because how do you know your not over compensating and doing something stupid just because you know
archivists: I always make my opponents sit in front of a mirror - or lend them my cool new sunglasses to wear
Fugitoid: i have done so
Goldyn Gryphon: Yes.
Roja: I might have used this a long time ago, but nowadays I urge them to keep their cards closed as soon as I spot it
DHEK: Sort of. But I always consciously try and make a good effort not to look at the person's cards. I also tell the person to hide their cards better. However, those cards that I have accidentally seen, I do keep knowledge of.
slagbeast: of course!
martybjsg: Yes and yes. I will remind them to not show me their cards, but if they persist then it is my gain.
Geosmores: yes and yes
_Kael_: Yes. Yes - after telling "I can see your cards" for the third time
LordT: Yes and occasionally
Chrisrob: I have seen and usually try not to take advantage.
Karmic_devil: yes and yes...but not intentionally, and not without mentioning several times "I can see your cards"
Cut & Space: A lot of time... I try not too but it's like if they're saying to you " Go on and look, I want to lose "
TrimChris: Yes. I do not recall (probably).
mcross: I try to avoid looking and I mention that they should hide their cards better.
rawdawg: it seems to happen every time
Lothartvni: I do my very best not to look, so far I haven't gotten any knowledge I should have. If I did I couldn't help but use it though.
duron600: Oh yeah
anonInternetName: Yes
mooka: Well, of course.
vampywife: yes, recently, in fact, and the knowledge didn't really make any difference for my game play.
hacksword: Yes. Cards are like tits; if you put them out there on display, I feel obligated to take a look.
mlanza: It's hard not to, but you can alert them to their carelessness as to not try to take deliberate advantage.
WatchmanX2000: yes. after warning them multiple times, yep.
Chris Page: A number of times. I try not to, and motion for them to hold their cards back. Sometimes I'm the guilty party.
keldrak: yes and yes, but i was playing munchkin so thati is a valid strategy :P
orodreth: Yes, and Yes. But the real question is... do you feel guilty for doing so?
kuhrusty: Sure, when playing with kids who are too young to hold cards properly, I utilize the ill-gotten knowledge to offer suggestions about plays they could make.
SteveK2: I'm not proud: I'll do anything to make UNO finish quicker
brainrob: Yes ... I managed to resist!
bobthemundane: Yes, as the bridge saying goes, a peek is better than a finesse.
Tim Synge: No. Except for Cheapass games.
LemonyFresh: Yes. No (and it's very annoying to have to figure out how not to)
jellospike: Yes. Not really.
Megadev: Unfortunately, yes. I have to keep reminding one person in particular that I should not be able to see their cards and that if I do see them I WILL use that knowledge.
billgoode: Ugh, this is one of my biggest pet peeves when playing cards. I HATE the idea of cheating, so I try really hard not to look. If I just can't help it, or the person is being WAY too obvious, I'll tell them to stop showing me their cards. I have been known to snap at people about this if they keep doing it. If I'm gonna play, I want to win with my own skill, not by having help from someone who can't keep their hand hidden.
bigbadsteve: I assume that they despise the game so much that they are trying to lose quickly and be done. I am happy to help
djlg: Yes. No (I'll do my best to edge further round the table and look away.)
vetinari7878: Yes. No, I usually tell them to hide their cards better.
skrutsch: yes, no (except to help them out)
Cavedog_pdx: I always tell people that I can never resist the temptation to look at something I probably shouldn't. I see lots of cleavage too!
ZombyDawg: I warn them to hold their cards back. If I can see them after that, too bad.
MochaKimono: Guilty as charged.
POvidiusNaso: Yes and yes.
javelin98: Yes, but no.
xlorp: When playing pinochle with hypercompetitive family, you need any advantage you can find.
GI Joe: Yes; I told the person to be more careful
scriptorum: I tell the person I can see their cards and play with the information I have. I'm not going to try to pretend I don't know what I saw. However, I might allow them some form of mulligan by table agreement if the mistake will cost them dearly.
dakarp: I've definitely been in the position where I couldn't help seeing another player's cards, even after telling them repeatedly to hide them. If I see something I shouldn't, I try not to use that knowledge, but sometimes it is hard to avoid.
Jim_P: Yes; I tried to...
puffinge: I tell them to hide their cards better.
Mosse: I try not to look - but I'm only human, you know.
puzzleme: Yes, but tried not to look. This happens rather frequently with some players. I try to remind them periodically to hold their hand up.
GuyHill: Yes. I warn them (once)
jttm: Nope
CDRodeffer: No and no. But we used to play Bridge at my grandparent's house, and my grandmother had this buffet side table with a huge mirror on it. I'd always try to make sure my partner (usually a cousin) sat in front of the mirror and I sat across from him so he could let me see his hand in the mirror. I also wore glasses, and I'd try to let him see the cards in my hand reflected in them. We were so bad! But we won most of the time.
skelebone: I have had that happen often, but I usually tell them not to tip their hand at me.
Lord_Prussian: Yes, and it's hard not to
chaddyboy_2000: Yes, no.
Spielfreak: Yes, particularly children. ; No.
CortexBomb: Yes and yes. We used to chide people severely for this playing Spades because so many people would play with their hands half on the table
