¿Question #4694?
Kyleroconnor: How many times can you fold a sheet of paper in half?
GeoffreyB: 1
Felimid: Once.
Woelf: As many as I need to.
pakruse: Seven
lannister4live: Two times. After that i get bored, and either go on with something else, or google for pictures of a paper folded 12 times.
pleple: 7 times
gordon1018: sequentially, or over the life of the paper?
Cringing Dragon: Once for each time you unfold it. If you fold it "in half" a second time (without unfolding the first fold), it's folded in quarters.
ricardofo: 7-8
Paladin_fin: It's 7 or 8, don't remember, can't be bothered to try to find out.
Polgara: 7 or 8
GrimJester: With a long enough sheet of paper, very many. Even more than 12. See: http://pomonahistorical.org/12times.htm, http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Folding.html, http://www.sciencenews.org/articles/20040124/mathtrek.asp
danafarr: My daughter did this as a math/science experiment a few years ago, and I think that the answer was something like 10. I remember soon after she did her experiment though, there was a 'big' news story about a girl who had folded a piece of paper in half something like 12 times in response to a challenge by a teacher.
Hubsi1w6: Depends on the size and thickness.
purplewurple: 9 with really thin paper
Osiris Ra: 7
waterdeepflapjack: Infinite.
dagr: ?
aleo09: don't know, at least 2
IanthePez: 100, then my hands get very tired
petersjs: Just once, but then I'm an underachiever.
JBMallus: Four
DHEK: I dunno... maybe 8 times?
xlorp: Wow, you figured out my secret to doubling my money
clesiemo3: lots
filovirus: 6
Ebon Wendigo: Once
Capitaine Grappin: 8
tdyck: without unfolding, as some of the sarcastic schmucks have suggested, 7. Try it and you will see.
MenuGarit: 8
AWildEep: Infinite. Just depends on the force required, and the physics.
MisterCranky: I can do it any number of times. Certainly more than the limit you may have in mind. The key is to just remember to unfold it once in awhile.
2amp: just once, after that it's quarters, eighths ect...
purvisa: That depends on the thickness and dimensions of the paper. And whether or not I can unfold it in between each fold.
ralpheous: once.
tipigi: 7
citizengeek: Once, then you're folding it into smaller increments than half
GornTC: 8 is the physical limit.
Leo H: 7? 8? i'm not sure
ZiggyZambo: 12
spartax: Well, that depends on the size. Usually 8 times, but if the paper is monstrously large, you can get that 9th fold.
Sigerson: I think it would depend on how big the sheet of paper is.
FrozenHoHos: I have people who do that.
heli: Six and a half, but this one you could look up.
Dorque: As many as I want. You aren't the boss of me.
fastfingers: 12
Shinan: One more than most
Chris Page: Depends on the paper and whether you use tools, but sevenish is a good estimate.
confuse_a_cat: I have stubby, clumsy fingers and little patience for folding. Not many.
Loquutus: 8? No 42!
djlg: Urban myths say a maximum of 7, but its infinite if your piece of paper is big enough.
ThatFalafelGirl: 9 i think is the absolute maximum. though it might be 8
brainrob: Up to 8
ZombyDawg: No more than 7 unless you are talking about folding it and then unfolding it in which case you could fold it in half until you had two sheets.
Kazin: 7, no matter the size of the paper. unless it's a reeeeaally tiny paper :)
puffinge: 700
Gecko23: Depends on how thin and long the paper is
gamesbook: 7
Marlowe_PI: Seven.
e.c.r.: 6
jttm: Infinite. until my hands get tired.
skrutsch: once, then you are folding into quarters, eighths, etc. (Yes, there's a limit to this. I can't remember what it is.)
Lord_Prussian: Depends on the sheet of paper
chaddyboy_2000: It all depends on how big the sheet is.
CDRodeffer: six, maybe seven if it's really thin.
skelebone: 7-times? Then you have 128 layers to contend with.
CortexBomb: Several
Spielfreak: 6
